Greaves invades
GLRRA at Grattan
By Jackl Fisher

Privateer Rad Greaves showed up and sent the
points leaders into a fast and furious game of
musical chairs at the third round of The Great
Lakes Road Racing Association's inaugural
series in at Grattan Raceway Park in Belding,
Michigan, winning five races and proving him·
self unstoppable,
Greaves and Greg Gibson went head-to-head
in the Expert GTO, until the middle of the race
when Greaves motored by Gibson on the
straightaway. Greaves' GSXR begin misting oil,
which prevented Gi.bson from mounting a serious challenge. With oil on his face shield, Gibson settled for second.
On Sunday, the pace quickened. In the Middleweight Super Comp, Gibson grabbed first
position and never looked back, Larry Delll1ing,
Monte Nichols and Brad Reese provided the
action. Denning got around Reese on the second
lap and stayed in second place to the checkered
flag, Reese fought for third witll Nichols on his
rear tire, and on the white-flag lap finally made
his way past Reese in the hairpin and tried to get
away, But Nichols went wide coming out of the
off-camber turn three, allowing Reese to go
inside to retake third place by tum four. Nichols
finished fourth while Jeff Kramer battled his
way into fifth place,
The Michigan GP treated fans to the fastest
racing of the weekend, The race was red-flagged
on the first lap when Gibson high-sided exiting
tum one in front of most 4the field, ending his
day, For the restart, Gibson's brother Brian took
the early lead and held it to the white flag, A
hard-charging Greaves had slipped up through
the pack past Delll1ing and Kramer to move into
second with a daring inside pass on Reese
through the rippled pavement in the esses,
Setting his sights on the leader, Greaves
stuffed Gibson by going outside through the
right-hand tum five and then 'bus-stopped' Gibson enlering the left/right combination before
the Grattan "bowl." Greaves took the win, Gibson claimed second and Reese finlshed third, all
turning low 1:24s,
