Gallagher smashes rivals at Glen Helen Motocross By Robert Van Damme SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JULY 7 Dennis Gallagher came from behind in each moto to take the overall Vet Novice win atGlen Helen Raceway. Pryor Cambell (47), Jeff Del Villar (42) and Dennis Gallagher (15X) battie in the second Vet Novice-class moto at Southern California's Glen Helen Raceway_ Jeff Del Villar took the first-moto holes hot and increased his lead as he did the double jump on the front straightaway while his rivals took the jumps one at a time. Following Del Villar were Pryor Campbell, Eric Barr, Jeff Scott, Gallagher, and Mark Sandzimier. Gallagher had moved up to third as they made their way OUI of . the canyon. The next lap saw Campbell drop to fourth, moving Gallagher to second and Sandzimier to third. Chris Swift was charging to fifth by the second lap. On lap four, Gallagher applied too much throttle and almost spun out at the north end. Sandzimier almost fell on the first jump leading into the canyon. On the final lap, Del Villar came upon some lappers. "I saw him (Del Villar) try to go underneath the lappers on the left-hand sweeper, but then the lappers moved down on Jeff, slowing him down," Gallagher said. '1 tried my way around the outside and left the throttle pinned and made it to the tabletop jump before Jeff did." Sandzimier got around Del Villar right before the tunnel jump. Gallagher took the win followed by Sandzimier, Del Villar, Campbell and Vanderlinden. Campbell took the second-moto with the holeshot, but by the end of the front straightaway Del Villar had taken over the lead. Following them were Sandzimier and Gallagher. Gallagher displaced Sandzimier as they came over the "Sky Jump," then tried to pass Campbell lor second at the whoop section. "I got side by side and we touched just slightly and I had to jump out of the whoops and let him (Campbell) by, so as not to get in trouble for leaving the track temporarily," Gallagher .said. Campbell then let Gallagher go by on the outside coming down "Animal Leap." Swift got by Sandzimier for fourth simultaneously. Gallagher used the sweeper section in the canyon to take over the top spot. Gallagher won, with Del Villar, Swilt, Sandzimier and Tim Rash rounding out the top five. Results 250 PRO: 1.
