Chuck Loy was the top Vet rider of the
night, taking the Over 25 and Over 30 overall
wins. The Suzuki-mounted Loy took the Over 25
class win literally uncontested but had to work
hard against Lonnie Hammond to secure the
Over 30 win after splitting moto wins.

Kent super at Glen Helen MX

SAN BERNARDINO, CA. JUNE 9
Alan Kent took home top honors in the Senior
Intermediate class and then went and played
with the kids in the Vet ovice class and fin·
ished in the top five during the third round of
the Yamaha Motocross Dealer Series at Glen
Helen Raceway.
Kent pulled the holeshot during the first
Senior mpto and basically never looked back.
Chuck Duran, Randy Lester, and Jon Speight
followed the leader Kent. Duran bobbled on the
second lap allowing Lester and Speight to move
up a spot each. Ken Ehlers was on the move
from a poor start as he made his way around
both Duran and Speight in one lap. The end of
the fourth lap had Ehlers get by Lester for second as they made their way past the scoring section. By the time Ehlers had second secured,
Kent was long gone. Kent took the checkered
first, followed by Ehlers, Lester, Speight and
Duran. The second moto saw Ehlers, who was
really riding by himself in the Expert class,
claiming the lead. Kent pulled right in behind
Ehlers, and the two of them pushing each other
had pulled away from the rest of the field by 15
seconds at the end. The John Burr Cycle-sponsored Kent took the class win followed by
Lester, Duran, G.L. Williams and Bill Schultz.
Alex Zapata was another rider double-classing on this fairly warm day. Zapata took home
YZ bucks for IVing the win in the 250cc Novice.
Then the Yamaha of Cucamonga-sponsored
Zapata had to come back from a horrible firstm.ota start to win the Junior Vet Novice class.
