miscue dropped him to fifth, and Buehl passed
Sweat.
Bowen took advantage of Yezek's bad luck
to take the lead, but Keith also made an error.
"I just fen down." Keith said.
DeMuth became the third leader on lap four,
and held on to take the win. Bowen recovered. in
time to hold off Buehl, who was having vision
problems.
"I didn't have any tear-offs:' said Buehl. "It
wasn't supposed to rain."
Yezek had a great battle with Sweat, finally
getting by with a lap and a half to go.

Demuth rode smoothly and took no chances,
maintaining his lead as it began to rain harder.
"[ was just riding hard:' said Demuth, "staying on tile outside of the comers and trying not
to fan down."
Bowen took second, ahead of Buehl, Yezek,
and Sweat, who finished third through fifth,
respectively.
Mark Burkhart dominated the 125cc B, 250cc
Band 16-24 classes, leading every lap.
Jeff Gibson was also impressive, winning
both the Mini Senior class and the Schoolboy
class.

Snodgrass sizzles at
eRe night Motocross

Kawasaki rider J.R. Snodgrass smoked the competition in the first moto, then fought back
from a second-moto fall to pick up the 125cc
Beginner-class overall win during California
Racing Clubs' Saturday night motocross at Los
Angeles County Raceway in Palmdale, California.
Justin Scott aced the first-moto holeshot and
quickly came under fire from Snodgrass and
Shawn Scott. Shawn Scott was flying as he went
around both Snodgrass and Justin Scott to grab a
lead he held for only two turns before going
down in the sand and dropping back to sixth
place. Snodgrass passed Justin Scott for the lead
on the third lap and roosted away for the win.
Justin Scott took second a good 10 seconds
ahead of Cliff Jennings and Shawn Scott.
Snodgrass was quickest down the start
straight, but drifted too wide in tl'ie tight lefthand first tum, allowing Shawn Scott to go
underneath and grab the early second-moto
lead. Jennings doubled past Snodgrass on the
opening lap to move into second. Snodgrass slid
out half a lap later and dropped back to "seventh
place, but quickly got up to speed and passed
David Johnson, John Specht and Masashi Motohashi to run in fourth place by the midway
point.
A lap later Snodgrass double-jumped past
Justin Scott to move into third place and close in
on Jennings. Snodgrass was handed second
when Jenning's rear wheel clipped Ricky Jones'
'helmet as Jennings tried to lap Jones by jumping
over him on the big infield double jump. Jennings and Jones ended up in a pile on the
ground as Snodgrass set out to catch the one
, rider remaining in front of him, Shawn Scott.
Shawn Scott put in a flawless ride to stay
clear of Snodgrass and win moto two. Snodgrass' great come·from·behind second·moto
effort earned him the first-place trophy over the
4-1 score of Shawn Scott.
LaOl, CA, JUNE 29
After a two-month leave, Dana Perri returned to
the Lodi Short Track in Lodi, California, to set a
blistering pace in the Vintage class and take the
Vintage A victory.
Perri grabbed the holeshot in the Vintage A
ma.in and was never headed. That's not to say
the rest of the pack didn't try, but despite Chris
Marquis and Eric Weisler's 12-lap-long harrassment of Perri, they ~ere unable to make the
pass. Marquis took second while Weisler
claimed third.
The Vintage B main went to fast-guy regulars Steve Hall, Mark Biscardi and Dante
Dambrusso, in that order.
Steve Mayfield returned from the GNC circuit to set the pace for the Experts, taking the
win over Woody Rogers and Geremy Rackley.
The Pro-Am Novice main belonged to Ron
Reimer as he took a wire-tcrwire win over the
competition. Second went to Bob Casey and
third to Jeff Gabhart.
The Open A main saw Mayfield in the lead
once Illore while Bob Casey worked his way up
through the pack to take second, despite a
ragged start. Jeff Gabhart finished third.
Shawn Raggio took the honors in the Open B
ma.in as weIl as the 250cc B main, and Marty
Weisler came ou t on top of the Open C main
after 10 hot laps. Shigehi Oka finished second
and Billy Hiles took third.
Danny Randazzo took a win in the Pee Wee
Stock B main while Ryan Kuntz took the Pee
Wee Stock A..cJass victory with Michael Rinaldi
in second. Bradley Hiler returned to take a solid
second in the Pee Wee Modified A main behind
Kuntz, and Nick Moore took the honors in the
60cc A main. Jason Grewe earned the victory in
the 60cc C class. .

Longcor lashes Howard Lake

HOWARD LAKE, MN, JUNE 22
Kenton Longcor made the 300-miJe trek to
Howard Lake, Minnesota, and returned home
with the first-place share of a $3000 purse after
winning the 750cc Pro and the Open Pro classes
at the Howard Lake Half Mile.
The Open Pro class featured a "run-whatyou-brung" format. Longcor cunningly elected
to ride his RS 750 twin in both of the big-block
divisions, though i~ the preceding Open Pro
heat race it seemed that Longcor's decision was
a bad one when SOOcc Pro-class winner Kurt
Boehlke stormed to victory aboard his 600cc
Wood-Rolax. Defending class champion Randy
Triplett and Verdeen Langland - also aboard singles - finished second and third in front of the
struggling Longcor.
Longcor and his father made some conec·
tions to Longcor's machine, and the start of the
Open Pro final proved disastrous for Longcor's
competition as Longcor pulled the holeshot and
raced off into the sunset.
"That's the best race I've had on the 750 for a
year and a half," said an elated Longcor. '1'm
reaUy happy 1came here."
The only rider to keep in touch with Longcor
was veteran dirt tracker Billy Hoffmiester. Heat
winner Boehlke dispatched Triplett to fourth
place on the last lap to steal the final step on the
podium.
The 750cc Pro Twin main event featured a
repeat performance by Longcor. Finishing second and third respectively were Randy Triplett
and Craig Powell.
Although Buzz Arndt was feeling a little
under the weather due to a touch of the flu, it
didn't stop the salty dirt tracker from scoring a
triple-crown victory. Competition in the Vintage
Twin, Senior Over SO, and the Senior Over 40
had to take a back seat to Arnd t as he sped to
victory in all three divisions.
Anthony Gardner triumphed in the Mini
65cc class, and was given the rare opportunity to
pray the champagne and be interviewed in
front of the crowd along with second-and thirdplace finishers Shawn Burr and Travis Laney,
respectively.

Hensley derails Dunlap at
Starwest Supercross

Jerry Hensley triumphed over the field of Veteran Novice riders gathered at the final round of
the Starwest Saturday Supercross Contingency
Series in Moreno Valley, California.
The first moto saw Hensley dive into the first
tum ahead of Mike Dunlap, Paul Frieze and Jeff
Colburn. Looking to put an early cushion
between himself and '!he rest of the pack, Hensley attacked the track leaving Dunlap and Frieze
a first-lap gap of five seconds to overcome. Colburn was a distant fourth. By lap three, Hensley
had pu11ed out another second on Dunlap and
Freize, who were engaged in a heavy dice for
second. !'reize looked low to make the pass on
Dunlap at the start of lap four but lost traction
and fell, allowing Dunlap to get away. Freize.
remounted behind C.T. Falk, who had missed
the start and entered the track a lap later. Hensley held on for first while Dunlap finished in
second.
The second moto proved to be more of a
challenge as Dunlap reeled off the holeshot with
Hensley, Freize, and Falk in tow. Knowing that
a second-moto win would give him the overall,
Dunlap looked determined to stay at the point,
but Hensley had other ideas. Throughout the
first five laps Hensley was glued to Dunlap's
back fender as the two front-runners put some
distance on Freize and Falk, who were engaged
in a battle of their own. With two laps to go
Hensley was able to get arou!'d Dunlap and
hold on to take the second~moto win and the
overall for the evening.
