Hererra and Dennis Voll_ Hererra drove around the outside of Rosa and pulled away for the win. Dan Argano grabbed the lead in the second heat, trailed by Brian MaXwell, Voll and a hardcharging Murphree. Murphree made short work of Maxwell artd VolI, then began nipping Argano's back tire, looking inside and outside for a way around the leader. At the finish line, Argano held on to the lead by half a wheel. Perry Proielte took off in front of heat four with Wayne Warrington, Travis Petton and Rick Reed in tow. Petton and Reed both went into the cushion to pass Warrington, and Pelton set his sights on the leader. With one lap to go, Pelton stuffed his Wood-Rotax inside Proiette to take the lead and the win. Hart took his first win in heat four, leading John Dupree, Dave Rust, Jim Kesler and Dave Pelton wire-to-wire. Veteran racer Dennis Briggs slid into the lead of the first semi ahead oJ Warrington, Reed, and Mike Kirby. Reed found an outside line to take the front spot and left Briggs to hold off Kirby, who ducked inside Briggs on the las.! lap and stole the transfer to the main. Pelton started semi two by putting his Wood-Rolax in the way of Rusrs Shell Yamaha Rust was able to pass on the outside of Pelton going into the comers, but Pelton consistently found a better drive onto the straightaways. Rust managed to take the lead away until Pelton hugged the inside and took the lead back as Rust drifted high. The pair rubbed paint and elbows throughout the race, but Pelton took the top spot by inches. Jim Kesler and Brian Maxwell followed in third and fourth. When the tapes went up Johnny MU'P.hree took over, leading Dan Hart and a herd of Rotax riders. Jim Rosa tipped over in tum two after running over another rider's leg. but somehow managed to keep the engine running and picked the bike back up to join the fray. Murphree and Hart started to pull'away from the pack, but when Murphree's bike went sour Hart was handed the lead. Argano, in second, had to contend with Hererra, who found an opening when Argano went wide in one comer. Hart continued to lead as Hererra closed tire gap, bringing Argano, Petton, Rust and Dupree along. When the flag came out Hart took a solid win, followed by Hererra in second and Argano in third.
