Thomas MILTON, FL, JUNE 15 Ricky Palmer scored another four moto sweep under the lights at West Florida Motocross Park. Palmer blitzed to four holeshots, four big leads, and as many first-place mota finishes in the 125cc and Open money classes. Palmer did what he could to keep things interesting with his out-front style. He treated every straight like it was a holeshot and every turn like it was the first. He kept the power to the ground whenever possible on the jump-filled track, taking time out only to style on the multiple jumps on the front straight, which was lined with nearly full grandstands. In the fi rst Open Money moto, Eric Elam kept Palmer honest with a smooth ride to a second-place finish. joey Silcox made the race more interesting with stylish moves that carried him to a come-from-behind third. Rodney Summers and Ed Kiley rode steadily to finish fourth and fifth. Sam Redmond crashed hard and frequen.tly until he decided to pull off. The second Open Money moto started off just as before, with all the action behind Palmer. Kiley was a strong second at the start followed by Elarn, Redmond, Summers and Silcox. Elam looked good except for one miscue that put him over a berm, allowing Kiley and Suntmers by. Kiley then overshot the same berm a few laps later. The turn was at the base of the down ramp of a large step-up jump and seemed to give others trouble as well, with Summers losing time to Elarn there and subsequently being pushed over the berm and losing his position. Elam then took off for some quick laps in the 53-second range in an attempt to reel in Palmer, who was turning approximately 52~second laps. Palmer lost time when he appeared to stall his engine and consequently overshoot a berm. However, he got back on track with enough breathing room to play to the crowd on the larger jumps. He greeted the checkers first followed by Elam, Summers and Kiley, who had Silcox putting the pressure on inches from his rear fender. Results OPEN MNY: 1. Ricky Palmer; 2. Eric Elam; 3. Canaguler HOLUSTER, CA MAY 25-26 Perfect weather and a track groomed to perfection made for two days of fast and furious racing at the fourth annual Parts Unlimited Memorial Day Motocross Championship in Hollister, California. Mota one of the 125cc Intermediate class looked like a Leo Tidwell benefit as he holeshot the first tum and motored away. TidwelJ was followed by Cory Morais, Hawk White, Paul Temmerman, Aaron Cheselske, and Jeff Northrop. Jeff Northrup (15) '!lads Aaron Cheselske (71) and Tyler Evans (hidden) on his way to a wrap-up of the Memorial Day Championship in Hollister, California. By lap two Northrop had displaced White and Paul Temmerman. For the next three laps the battle fOT second raged on as the Team Green Rocket hammered Morais at every opportunity. M,orais finally gave in to the pressure and Northrop made the pass on lap five. One lap later Northrup was dogging Tidwell for the lead and made the pass over the spectator jump. Northrop took over first position and with it the first-moto win. Tidwell finished in second and Cheselske took third. When the gate dropped for moto two it was Cheselske, Northrop and Temmerman sharing the holeshot through the first two turns. Northrop and Cheselske quickly opened a lead over the pack and battled for two more laps, until Cheselske went wide in an uphill turn and Northrop ducked inside for the pass. Northrup lead for the remainder of the race, On the second day of racing the track was reversed, creating a very tight second tum that collected its share of fallen riders, including Northrop. Remounting over half a lap down he began to move up, but the pace that the class was setting was too fast to allow a rapid advance. Cheselske jumped out to lead moto one, followed closely by Stapleton, Pierce, Morais and White. By the end of lap two Evans had moved up MO places and set his sights on Pierce. Pierce was unable to hoid him off past lap four. Evans shifted his focus to Cheselske, and although Cheselske wicked it up and pulled away, it proved to be a short-lived lead when Evans went by him on the last lap for the win. Pierce, Stapleton and White rounded out the top five. jeff Northrop had fire in his eyes as the riders lined up for moto two, obviously upset with his ll-place finish in moto one. By the end ollap one Northrup was a full 10 seconds ahead of second-place rider Evans, who was an 10 seconds ahead of Stapleton and the rest of the pack. Pierce, Cheselske, and White slam-danced for a few laps, but couldn't match the pace set by Northrop and Evans. When the moto ended it was Stapleton taking a well-deserved third, with White and Cheselske fourth and fifth respectively~ Results 50 MOO: l. Zach Ham; 2. Tony Campos; 3. Mytas, Mueller mighty at Filmore Grass Drags By Rose Parmeter FILMORE, WI,jUNE 14 jan Mytas and local hero Toby Mueller were the men of the hour at the Ozaukee Guzzler's-sponsmed annual motorcycle grass drags in Filmore, Wisconsin. Mytas did battle with jay Parmeter in the 501-750 dass, the two riders so dose together at the finish line that the race was called a tie. In the runoff, Mytas narrowly beat Parmeter for the win. Mytas then jumped on his Open-class Honda to take on a pair of 1200cc Harleys, but Toby Mueller and Shane Kapugia both proved to be a bit too much for Mytas. Mueller took the win over Kapugia, while Mytas finished 'in third. At the end of the day the top three winners from each of the 500cc+ classes were gi ven one last chance to prove who was fastest. Again it was Kapugia, Mueller, and Mytas dominating the field, until the race came down to Kapugia and Mueller. Kapugia got the holeshot and lead for a few feet, until Mueller hooked up and caught Kapugia, winning the $100 "fastest bike of the day" title. . That wasn't the end of it though; two local businesses donated $50. 00 each to see a "fastest Harley of the day'" runo.ff. Mytas just happened to have a Harley o.n his trailer, and hauled it onto the track for a shot at the prize. Mytas and Mueller battled again, Mueller taking the initial advantage with a lead out of the hole. But when Mueller caught a rut and got squirrelly, Mytas blasted forward and took his lead to the finish line. Bill Matzke took on 5OOcc-c1ass favorite Scott Schnabel, the two riders easily eliminating the dozen or SO other riders in the 500cc dass. But when it came down to the final, it was Matzke all the way. Results MINI: 1. Ben Kramer (Yam); 2. Jesse Janisch (Kaw); 3. Danny Dye (Kaw). 100-175: 1. Brian Kramer (Kaw); 2. Jeff Piontek (Hon); 3. Cipala on top at Road America Hillclimb By Rose Parmeter ELKHART LAKE, WI. JUNE 8 Todd Cipala took his Kawasaki Triple over the wet, slippery hill in only 3.64 seconds to take the 750cc-dass title at the Road America Hilldimb in Elkart Lake, Wisconsin. Jay Parmeter finished in second place with a 4. 01-second run. Racing was tight in 5OOcc-e1ass action, during which Bill Paider and Mike Wood tied for first after the first round. Rick Parmeter finished in second and Cipala in third. Standings changed in round two after Parmeter clocked an awesome 3.67 to snatch the lead. Cipa!a scored a 3.81 for second, and Wood had to settle for third. Wood, who had made it to the SOcc Open to compete with the nine other fastest riders of the day, was concentrating on setting the fast time. Thars just what he did, pounding out a 3.58 on his CRSOO and winning the 80cc Open at the same time. The year-long Open-class rivalry between Mike Bronk and Chuck Neinfeldt produced some exciting hillclimb action. Bronk had a definite advantage as he took his sparkling Yamaha over the hill in 3.62 seconds to win the class and virtually eliminate the chance of anyone taking over the Distrcit 16 points lead. Neinfeldt and his Harley Davidson "Snortster lll" finished second at 3.93. Results MlNI JR: L Bill Myers (Suz); 2. Dan Mye... (Hon); 3. Luke Parmeter (Kaw); 4. Jeremy Timm (Suz); S. JUNE 9 Chuck Neinfeldt took his revenge for prior losses to Mike Bronk by dominating the Open class at the final points-paying AMA District 16 hillclimb held in Bloomville, Wisconsin. Neinfeldt led the Open dass from start to finish, docking a 3.77 while Bronk trailed at 4.22. Bronk's opportunity to take the lead came in round two, but the best he could muster was a 3.86. Neinfeldt chose to take his second ride even though the win was sewn up, and his sec· ond attempt yielded a 3.55, the fastest ride of the day and a time that left Neinfeldt the undisputed "King of the Hill. " Minnesota's "odd" Cipala led the first half of 750cc class racing at 4.57 with Bill Waldvogel and jan Mytas following behind. Waldvogel momentarily lost control of his powerful bike at the top, and was body-slammed into an oak tree, breaking his wrist in the process. Though dazed, Waldvogel was able to pick himself up and collect a first-place trophy; lucky for him he was. able to break the timing light before he crashed. jay Parmeter carne back from a virtually lastplace standing to score a second-place finish, knocking Cipala back to third place and Mytas to fourth. Parmeter's finish was enough to clinch the tight 750cc class-points battle between him and Cipala; Parmeter's 50 points just edged out Cipala's 49. Cipala, however, redeemed himself in the 500cc dass with a first-round ride of 4.16 seconds that remained unbeaten by any rider throughout two rounds of competition. The only SOOcc rider to better that time was by Cipala himselJ, who clocked a 3, 99 in round two. Mike Wood was just a hair behind with a 4.17~second run, and Bill Paider finished in third. . Mike Bronk easily took the g(K)cc-class victory with his 4.38-second lime, followed by Bill Timm in second. Robbie Redman, despite flip- 43
