Wheelwright fast man at Anamosa Hillclimb By Bud Northrup Michael Montoya was fastest off the line in the Formula Two race, followed by Steve Teschke in second and Karl Lowry Jr. As the second lap got under way, Brian Garbellini caught the leaders and powered past Lowry and Teschke into second position. . Jason Paden had been moving steadily up through the pack and began to close on Lowry. Halfway through lap five, Garbellini lost the front end on his motorcycle and crashed, allowing Lowry to move into second and Paden into third. Paden took over second position when he passed Lowry on the outside of tum four, and al though Lowry kept the heat on Paden for the finallaps he was unable to reclaim second. At the line, it was Montoya with the race victory followed by Paden in second and Lowry third. Results F-I: 1. Chuck Graves (Suz); 2. Peter Christensen (Suz); 3. Wall Dorsch (Suz); 4. JUNE 8 Pat Gomm grabbed the lion's share of an $800 purse as 10 of Northern and Central California's top Pro riders battled in Chowchilla at the Top Gun Shoot-Out main event of round two of the AMP / Clawson Motorsports Mechanix Wear/FMF Top Gun Stadiurncross Series. When the gate dropped, Pat Gornm pulled the holeshot followed bv John Nelson and Dan Paladino. By the close of the first lap, Todd Nelson would pass Paladino to take over third place. Also getting by Paladino would be Dennis Kritzer. Both Kritzer and Paladino would battle for the next few laps with Paladino eventuallv taking over the fourth-place position. In the meantime Scott Davis had his sights set on a position in the top five and began to close in on Kritzer, passing him on the fifth lap. While the front-runners pulled away, there was plenty of actlOn m the back of the field. Jason Jenkins, Robert Simpson anj Justin Quinn would trade ~ff positions as ther tried to move up in the field. Gomm would continue to pull away from both of the Nelson brothers with Todd getting by John on lap six of the 12-lap main event. Davis would find his way past Paladino on lap nine only to give the position back a lap later after dropping his bike in the step-up turn. At lap 10 the field would settle into their eventual finish positions. Gomm would capture the win, while Todd Nelson, John Nelson, Dan Paladino and Scott Davis would round out the top five. Sober AUBURN, CA JUNE 14 Jimmy "The Jammer" Sisemore won his second Scratch Main Event of the season at Auburn Speedway in Auburn, California, while Kelly Bennett went wire-to-wire to win the Handicap Main Event. On the pole in the Scratch Main was Bobby Hedden, and m the second spot was Louis Kos· suth. Northern California's points leader Bart Bast occupied the unenviable third starting lane, and for the third time of the evening. Sise~ore drew the lane-four outside starting posi· han. The start was "all she wrote," as Sisemore dived to the. front on the first-tum blue groove and then jumped out to a commanding lead over Hedden and Bast. In the second set of tums Ko suth went to the outside and deftly drove around Hedden. Koosuth then set his sights on Sisemore, but in his zeal to put the front-runners behind him he overslid tum one of the second _J~P and. retired for the night with a fourth-place finish. While·Kossuth pulled off the course, Sisemore fattened his lead. Hedden stayed down on the low line, forcing Bast to the outside where he took over second place on lap three. Kelly Bennett started the Handicap main at the front of the pack on the 20-yard line and never saw the back of another rider the rest of the race. Chad Felicio started next to Bennett on the 20, but got a bad start and feU in behind on the first lap. Meanwhile, back-yardage specialists Sisemore and Bast quickly came up behind Felicio and 4D-yard starter Pat Linn. Sisemore, with Bast in tow, elbowed inside of Felicio on lap three, but it wasn't enough to stop Bennett, who took first place with Sisemore in second and Bast in third. In the Second Division main, KIm Darwazeh blasted his way to the front of the pack only to see Ian Essary steal the vistory with a brilliant "thread-the-needle" move in the closing laps. Darwazeh finished in second, and Bill Newby clalrned third. Results SCR MAIN: 1. Jimmy Sisemore Oaw); 2. Bart Bast Oaw); 3. Bobby Hedden Oaw); 4. Louis Kossuth Oaw). . HDCP MAIN: 1. JUNE 15 Jose Godinez's persistency earned him the 12Scc Beginner win in the third round of the Saturday rught Starwest Contingency Series at the Starwest Supe.rcross Park in Moreno Valley, California. When the gate feU in the first moto of the 12Scc Beginner class, Jared Krause grabbed the holeshot with Godinez, Vito Tarentino and Brandon Morgan in tow. Two first-lap mi~takes by Godinez allowed Krause to pullout to an early four-second lead and gave Tarentino and . Morgan the chance to chaUenge for the secondplace position. By lap 3, Godinez had regained his COncentration and started to close on Krause while pulling away from Tarentino and Morgan. .' Godinez soon made the pass on Krause, only to be passed back as they entered the whoop sechon. Staying persistent, Godinez hounded Krause for all of lap five and finally got around him on the back straight. Tarentino was under heavy pressure from Morgan, and allowed the leaders to get away due to his efforts to keep Morgan behind him. Godinez held on to take the checkered flag. The second moto was a carbon copy of the first, with Krause pulling another holeshot out of his bag of tricks. Pursued by Godinez, Tarantino, Morgan and Jonathan Arazaga, Krause seemed even more determined to take the second-moto win and the overall for the evening. Godinez, however, remalned on his back fender and kept the pressure on throughout the entire moto. With one lap left, Godinez was able to get a better drive out of tum one and passed Krause over the table top. Krause wicked it up in an attempt to get back around Godinez, but to no avail. Godinez finished in first posisiton, followed by Krause in second and Tarantino in third. Results so Sll< 1: Brandon Million; 2. Chad Gores; 3. Kalin Goodsite; 4.jll5OTl Endo; 5. Jake Hulett.
