the going was dusl-free, as Hallgath had decided 10 call il a day and not push his luck without
a rear brake. Hengeveld enjoyed a trouble-free
ride with the exception of some dusI from lappers 10 bring his 250 home for his first overall
win in the desert. Holding onto the second spol

behind the leader. Third overall and firsl Senior

County Raceway saw YZSO rider Donny Wiggins top the 80cc Beginner class with a perfect 11 score.
Wiggins made his intentions clear by nailing the first-moto holeshol. jared Tebo had different ideas and made his way to the front with
only a couple of laps completed. Wiggins
didn't let Tebo get away and after another circuit of the fast track was back in command.
Tebo tayed within striking range, but couldn't
find the speed necessary 10 pass Wiggins and
would have 10 settle for second. A tight race for
third went all the way 10 the wire wilh justin
jordan edging oul Troy Tiltlemier and Rj. Garcia.
Wiggins didn'l put a wheel wrong during
the entire second moto as he went wire--to--wire
for the overall win. Donny Elmer was a n<>-show
in the firsl molo but made up for il in round two
with a hard-fought second-place finish over jordan and Tebo. jordan's consistent 3-3 finishes
gave him the second-place trophy over the 2-4
rides of Tebo.
Chris Tocco absolutely destroyed all comers
in the BOec (12-13) class, even with a b~own fork
seal spewing oil on the exhaust pipe, creating a
fainl blue smoke trail for others to follow. Todd
Gosselaar easily held off Kevin jennings and
Christopher Barrett for a couple of second-place
finishes.
One of the best races of the night was the
firslBOec (14-16) moto between Christopher Gesselaar and Michael Young. The two Honda riders traded the lead with each lap. A lapper prevenled Gosselaar from doing a big double jump
on the last lap, allowing Young to get away for
the win. Young was a no-show for moto two.
Gosselaar easily won the second round over j.j.
Bonanno.

Bicknell not Gross at
Too Much Fun Motocross
By Rich Truchlnskl
ROSARITO, MEXICO, MAY 19
Jason Bicknell stole the show in round two of
the Too Much Fun beach motocross series, edging out the 250cc Novice competition for the
win.
Molo one gOI under way wilh Bicknell
pulling Ihe holeshol and 250cc Vel Larry Gross
in tow. The two riders pulled out an early lead
and were never separated by more than three.
seconds. Back in third was Gerardo Rojas with
Brian Thomas holding down fourth. Rojas and
Thomas battled hard unlil Thomas went down
in one of those ever-changing sand corners.
When the checkered flag dropped Gross had
passed Bicknell for the overall molo win. Bicknell finished second overall first 250cc Novice.
Rojas was able 10 pull oul a huge lead over
Thomas, finishing second and third in 250cc
Novice respectively. As the flag dropped for
the start of moto two, Brian Thomas looked to
have things under control but swung a lillie too
wide rounding the sandy off-eamber turn one,
dropping him back to fourth. Bicknell pulled
out an early lead with Thomas and Rojas in
tow. Gross was asleep at the wheel at the start,
bUI mounted a charge thaI would puI him up
front by moto's end. As the pack completed the
firsllap Thomas had worked his way 10 second
with Rojas close behind. As Bicknell pulled out
a commanding lead over the pack things were
heating up between Rojas and Thomas. Rojas
closed on Thomas near the end of the moto,
making Thomas too nervous 10 hold Ihe posilion. Thomas finally succumbed to the pressure
from Rojas and wenl down half a lap from the
end. Meanwhile Gross, just racing against the
clock, had slipped by both Thomas and Rojas in
the interim', Up front the war was over when
Bicknell disappeared down by Ihe beach, lelting Gross by for the overall win. • .
Bicknell
remounted with a command.ing lead on Rojas
wilh Thomas landing a thircj overall for the
day.

Woods-wise Texas Vintage Trials champion
Rick Heidman was the Overall Vintage-cla s
winner, also taking top honors in the Historic
(1967-75) B class. Thirleen-year-old Eric Heidman won the Decade (198287) class aboard a
KTM 80 that waS perfectly suiled for the extratight forest paths.
joey Powell gathered up a first-place award
in the Dinosaur class. "Irs a very fun and techrtical alternative to motocross." Powell said. His
father Jay Powell was runner-up in the Historic
C class, which was topped by Don Kraft.
Jack Thompson and wife Laura, came in
from Fort Worth with Suzuki dual sport 350s
and placed firsl in Ihe Pil Bike and Women's
classes, respectively. jack Thompson recorded
the fastest laps of the day in eighl minules, 30seconds on the 3.75-miJe loop.
A contingency of East Texas riders trucked
in their vintage bikes and wenl home with honors. john Pearson of Tyler navigated his streetlegal 1977 Yamaba DTSOO to the top prize in the
popular Pre-Modem C class. Frank Sides and
Michael Reeves drove together from Winona
and look se<'ond and third respectively, in PreModern C. Sides, riding a 79 Yamaha 175, finally succumbed to Pearson's nine-minute lap
times and finished two minutes back, Gary
Thucman from Coke muscled his CR500 through
the tight stuff to get second in Decade. 1eff Bailey from nearby Quitman was the winner in the
Historic A class.
Due to mechanical problems in practice with
his number-one bike. Dave Allard was forced to
enler on a 1980 Honda XLBO. The tight paths
suited Allard's shorter-wheelbased bike well,
but BOec could only pull Allard to a second in
the Pre-Modem B class, behind Bultaco pilol
john Bradford from Plano.
Don Kraft traveled from Haltom City 10 try
off-road racing again and went home with
gravy. Despite the tall motocross gearing of his
fancy 1975 Bultaco Pursang 250, Kraft negotiated the trails consistently enough 10 win Ihe Hi~

Campbell gOI his XR600 through Ihe gates

thrown in toward the end.
The third special teSI ran through the infamous creek-bed trail known as Wilbur's Way,
buI was thrown oul due to a nasty bottleneck.
The B and C riders were sent through a somewhat easier creek bed where 250cc Vete.ran Bclass winner Chris Oswald posted the fast lime

The fourth special tesl ran through more
razorbacks and rolling, medium-speed hills.
This section had a bollleneck of its O"l'!' in the
shape of a steep, talcum-powder uphill thaI got
the besl of many riders. Dana Van Slee, however, cruised Ihrough with a top score of 1134 on
his KXl25.
