Injuries have plagued the Primal Impulse/Bills Pipes Honda rider ever since turning pro three years ago. At Southwick, Reynard was leading the first 125cc moto when he crashed and separated his already·tender Ie..ft shoulder. Reynard had just returned to action after suffering a broken collarbone earlier in the year. It is not yet known how long Reynard will be out of action. the rest of the pack, but Emig just could not do the same on McGrath, who had an answer to Emig's every move. "The problem you have with someone like him (McGrath) behind you, is that you can't take the chances experimen ting wi th different lines, or he'll get you," Emig explained. "Instead, you get sucked into the same lines, while he can try different lines and find the best ones." The dogfight last about seven laps when McGrath made his move and quickly pulled away from his adversary. "I was concerned," said McGrath of Emig leading the race. "He was riding real good; he rides fast and he can last. But I knew I could last, too. I've been training real hard and know that I can ride the whole race and never let up. I know it's important to get around him because it deflates him; besides, I was eating dirt for a long time." Once past Emig, it was all she wrote as McGrath gradually pulled away. "Right after I passed him (Emig) I rode as hard as I could for about three laps to get away and then cruise." And cruise he diel right to his second straight overall win and fifth of the series. Emig went on to finish a 'lonely second. LaRocco clawed and scratched his way into third after passing Swink near the midway point. From there, the factory Suzuki rider pulled away but had no chance of catching either McGrath or Emig. Albertyn passed Swink late in the race to grab third. Swink's problems didn't end there, either. The Honda rider succumbed to Henry al'l.d Lawrence the last few laps, making it Henry fifth; Lawrence sixth and Swink eventh, at the finish. Button rode another strong race to eighth, while a crash earlier in the race dropped Hughes back to ninth. Bradshaw quickly made up for his bad start, then settled into 10th, where he finished out the day. ~ MX338 Southwick, Massachusetts Results: June 23, 1996 (Round 6 of 13) us MOTO 1, 1.
