Co m pe ti ng in three classes for the day, Berg took the w in in the Vet Master class and finishe d in the money in two others . CMC Racers from all over California and ne igh bo ring stat es collided to d o battl e and claim final series p rizes and factory contingen cy cash. In th e first mot o of th e Vet Maste r cl a ss, Be r g r oo s ted his FMF I MS Rba cked Honda in to an early lead followed by Jon Zahrt and Martin Klossner . Zah rt held in close for the first part of the moto but was no match for Berg's 500 on the wide-open track. Zahrt, a regular winner of the Vet Master class, had to follow in second and wa tch as Berg slow ly start to pull awa y. " I raced m ore than one 'class last ni ght and 1 am racing three classes toda y," Zahrt said. "1 am just trying to stay alive out there." As the laps s tar ted to wear d own Berg continued to extend his lead. When th e race was ov er, Berg cruised in for the win followed by Zahrt, Klossner and Ron Ruff. The second moto was a carbon copy of th e first as Berg took the earl y lead and never looked back. By this time the da y's competition was taking its toll on Zahrt, wh o slipped behind Klossner in the second moto and was forced to settle for third for the day. Berg was on a Sun da y cruise as he whipped around the track. "I am ju st trying to prepare for the upcom in g Mammoth Mountain Motocross, and this is the best track to practice on," Berg said. Practice it was as Berg took the black: and-white without a th reat. Klossner was able to hold off Zahrt for third and claim second place for th e d ay; Zah rt had to settle for third. In the UScc Beginner clas s, Shane Leyb en swep t both mot os to take the win over his competition. Leyben went toe-t o-toe with Jeff Eid e, Mike Miller and Seth Ma rtinell i. Leyb en w as th e only rider with consisten t moto finishes. Eide took th e runner-up spo t w ith 2-4 moto finishes . In th e 2S0cc Pro class, Casey LytIe took the victory followed by David Evilsizer an d Brian "Slippy" Ro th . Ly tle might have wo n th e battle, bu t it was Roth who had the more consistent finis hes d uring th e series an d to ok the cha mp ionship.
