Holes hot master Shane Lawson was first out 61 the gate in mo to one with johnn y Dnisko on his back fender. By the end of the first lap the top five postitions were sec ured with Sean Hogan. jon Zonin and josh Sweat rounding out th~ top five. Two riders tha t have been dominating thi s series so far , Jimmy Evans and Josh Sweat, had their wo rk cut out for them . Evans wa s flying from a ba ck-o f ~the-pack st a rt as Sweat was pushing his way into fou rth. Sweat wa s tailing Zoni n and took an insid e line in a straightaway to capture lourth. By lap three Onisko was on Lawson 's rear wheel, and he tried to take the sam e inside line to swipe the lead, but Lawson bl ocked h im . However; as the top six headed into the woods, everything changed. Sweal passed Hogan over a set 01 doubles 10 take over third as Zcnin, Evans and Slother were pushing closer, On the following downhiB, Zonin and Eva ns also passed Hogan. capturing fourth and filth respectively. Soon aft er landing the fou rth -p lace position, Zonin inherited third wh en Sweat crashed in a bowl turn, all owi ng the ne xt four rid ers by. Coming up to th e fin is h lo r th e white fla g, Onisko took a chance going to the ins ide to steal the lead from Lawson. On the last lap, Evans and Slother were both still pickin~ off riders, with Evans passing Zonin on a straigh taway and Slother making the move . on Hogan in the woods. Before the end of the lap Zonin had again lallen victim to Siother and Hogan. allowing them to round ou t the top live . At the drop of the ga te in the second moto, Lawson was again out front but with Swea t intow this time. Onisko followed closely in th ird, with Slother in fourth. Zoni n rounded out the top five, with Eva ns again charging from the back 01the pack . Befo re th e fin ish 01 th e li rst lap, the PP /Extremel Ato mic 22 Ya mah a 01 Slother com pleted a pass on Onis ko going thro ug h the whoops. Coming up to the finish at the end 01 lap two Lawso n spun out , allowing Sweat and Slother out front. where they stayed for the rest 01 the mo to. On lap three, Evans flew by Onisko on a straightaway and quickly worked his way up to Lawson's rear wheel. By the end of tap three , Evans completed the pass on Lawson on a downhill, taking over third. Lawson and Zonin rounded out the top live as On isko laded late in themoto. Results 125 A: 1. Stamm perfect at Canyon Lake Hillclimb By Bud Northrup DANVILLE. 11_ MAY 26 , Marc Stamm had another perfect d ay at the Canyo n Lake hilldimb outs ide Danvill e, Illinois. Stamm, from Forreston, Illinois, was the only rider in the 400cc class to break the three- second . barrier, then cam e back in the SOO class not cc only to win the Class but to set a new hill record tim e of 2.690 seconds. It wa s Stamm's second su ch perfect night 01 the young 1996 sea son, having picked up d ouble wins and the fast time at the Pleasu re Riders dimb on May 4. In class action, 7-year-o ld Derrick Dallman rode his SOcc Honda 87.5 leet up the hill to win the Au tomat ic cla ss, bare ly a h ead 01 Ma rk Matth ews, who rode his Suzuki SO lor 87 feet lor to take second place. Only one foot behind Matthew s was Derrick' s S-yea r-o ld brother Brand on Dallman. who rode his Hond a 86 feet for the third- place trophy. Fourth p lace we nt to 7-year-ol d Zachary Du nca n, who rode his Suzuki to the 82.5 loo t mark. justin Trent rode his V-Zinger 80 feet up the hill to round out the top live . jackie Mason continued his perfect season in the Youth class, flying his CR80 over the top in 3.652 seconds on his lirs t ride . Mason has won every climb he's entered in District 15 and 17 so far this year. Mike Sarv er posted a good 4.2.56second time in his second ride on the KXBO to wresl the second-place trophy away from jackie Mason' s y ou n ge r broth er, Co d y , wh o ha d turned in a 4.436-second time 'on his YZSO during his fir st rid e. Fourth place went to Tat e Pearson with a 4.565-second time on his KXBO with Matt Weaver riding his KX80 to the fifthplace trop hy in 4.596 seconds. David Peirson is also ha ving a perfect sea son in the 200cc class. Peirso n turned in a good 3.780-second time on h is first ride to take the . firs t-round lead on his KDX200 o nl y to see David Sutton better him with a 3.745-second ride on an RMl 25 on his second ride. Peirson rose to the chall enge, however, wi th a fine 3.424-second effort on his secon d rou nd. Dan ville's Mar k Schroeder rode his stock-length CR125 to a th ird -p lace ,fin ish in 3.754 seconds for th ird p lace, while Eric j ordan picked up lou rth pla ce in 3.916 seconds on his KXI25 . The 1995 12Scc National Champion, Ma rk Goodma n, finish ed fifth wi th " 3.958-second run on his Kawasaki. The 250cc war contin ues. Brent Stewart is riding hard, wis hing to delend his Ll -year dominance 01 the class, but has his hands lull as jackie Mason and And y Former are pu shing hard. Mason started the show with an incredible flying out-of-control first-rou nd rid e 01 3.076 seconds onl y to see Stewart break the three-second barrier w ith a fas t 2.90S- second run on hi s YZ250. Eric Wheelwright then slippe d in between the pair with a 2.907-second run on h is YZ250on his second ride. Young Mason then delivered an even·fast er 2 . 895 ~s econd ride on h is second attempt, putting the pressure on Stewart. wh o had been injured in an over-the-hill crash on his first rid e, but gave it his all again, coming up jus t short with a 3.019-second effort to stay in second place. And y Former found him self in a 3.035-second fourth-pla ce tie with Kal eb Northrup. Former turned the fastest time 01 the day in the dass, carding a ·2.890 seconds on his tie-reaker run on his RM25O. Fast as it was, however , he cou ld only daim fourth.
