MAY24 Jimmie Sisemore took the checkered flag in the Scra tch main ev en t at the Gold Co un try Fa irgrounds , and Lou is Kossuth brought down the house with a bri lliant outside ride in his Handicap main victory, Kossuth, Sisemore and Bart Bast lined up on the 50 -y ard line for the Handicap ma in . Up ahead on the 20 were Ian Ferris and Chad Felicia . Rick Schambers sat alone on the ze ro-yard line. The back-ya rd age veterans qui ckly swooped in for the kill, Sisemore and Bast on the inside and Kossuth on his favorite outside line. As the se co nd lap ended Kossuth had pa ssed aro und . all but Schambers and had dropped down to the low line jus t ahead of Sisemore, wh o had by this tim e d isp ensed wi th Ferris an d Feli cia . As the group en tered tum four in the middle lap of the five-la p feature, Kossuth had to straigh ten up slightly to avoid contact with the slower-moving Scha m be rs and subseq ue ntly w ent just wi de eno u gh for Sisemo re an d Bast to mo ve pas t him on the bo tto m line. Kossuth go t back on the thro ttle an d smoked arou n d th e o u tsi de of Ba s t, Si semore a n d Scha mbers, who was down on the po le causing Sise more and Bast a bit of a delay in the ir q uest to p ush up into the lea d positi on . Once Kossuth had th e lead, he rode clea n ly to the checkered flag. Des pite an injured shoulder that Sisemore sa id kept him out of th e American Final a nd remains only 80 percent at best, the Jamme r took the early lead in the Scratch main from his sec ond-la ne starting position and motored a ll the way to th e win. Poitra too k the lead out of the first tum in moto one an d never look ed ba ck. Galen Burton a nd Jason Royse put some pr.esure on Poitra but neve r closed the t o-b ike lead, wi th Poitra wi n ni ng th e fir st mote . In the second mota Poitra contin ued h is im p ressive performance as he p ull ed away for the overall win. Burton ran hard to stay in second in front of Dusty Dris kill. Royse with a 3-4 finish claimed third o vera ll. Josh Thomas ran hard all day with the top four rid ers in sigh t but coul d not find the extra speed to get past the fith spot, Th e SOc<: (10-15) class was swept by Jeremy Hitschmann w ith Phil ip Williams close in both mutus, but Hitschmann ran a mista ke-free race for the win. Cory Nelson and Jeff Walter battl ed for third as Brett Mackey slipped up on the riders, but Nelso n held on for third with Walter and Mackey fou r th a n d fif th . Th e Kawasaki-mo unted Hitschmann holeshot the second molo and neve r looked back. Williams ran hard to hold off Mackey for second . With Mackey finishing with a 5-3 fInish pushed Walter out of the overall fouth spol Dustin Patterso n and Justin Ingram ran midpack 10 keep the 80cc class one of the best races of the day. Randy Smith played his handin the second moto of the Vet 30 class. Smith ran third 10 John Pangle an d first -mote winner Kevin Mans. The Suzukimounted Mans came from the backof the pack to the front thanks to Pangle going down in the whoopi The first moto ended with Pangle holding off Smith and Eric Webb following up for the fourth spot. Smith led all the way in the second moto with Pangle and Mans battling for the second place.
