In the second tig ht section Cayer came into his stri de s o m ew h a t, and bested Kell y a poi nt, and almost a bit m ore, w hen Kelly went 5:56 a nd Cayer d id a 4:40. Neith er one too k the fast est score throug h the sectio n, tho ug h. Ho nda ride r Dave Carlson Jr. made it into the top five w ith that ho nor, dropping a 4:03. Check number five was the point of controversy, andwas thrown ou t after the m issing arrows we re noted, but the re was still plenty of po in ts-taking to be had . A check-in afte r the gas stop and then a long section of gnarly, rock y trail found Cayer to be the man to beat, posting a 6 at the secret check-out. None of his compe titors came within a po int of his sco re, but Cayer lost concentration be tween secti ons and burned the next easy check. At this po int , Kelly and Suzuki rid er Mad ore were the onlyriders within snap p ing distance of Cayer , but Kelly sealed his fate by burning the same chec k an d ad d ing tw o more points to his sco re. Kelly, Madore an d Cayer all netted three points at the last check, and finis he d up w ith 18, 17, and 16 po ints to tal, respectively: Ma do re's 17 points we re good e n o u gh for the H igh Po int A awa rd , w hile Kelly wa s awarded th e A Lightweigh t (250cc) class win. Steven Faster! was the top finis hing B rider for the day, riding hi s Suzuki RM X to a 33-point score; and Mike Smith top ped the rest of the C rid er s on his KTM, finishing w ith 48 points to his credit. W ith three even ts down in the 12race N ETRA Enduro Series, Cayer has two wins to his credit, ma kin g the CRE rider eas ily the overall leade r at this po in t.
