MICHIGAN HARLEY-DA VIDSON DEALERS PRESENT
ry of Ray Flower, the club's tr ea su rer
a n d a found ing member of the KPTR,
w ho passed away this past winter. The
fir s t m in u te was started e m p ty, as a
minu te of silence to his memory .
In th e first points-taking sectio n it
wasn' t Cayer who took the lead, inst ead
Ja mes Ke ll y , on a H usqva rna, b e at
Cayer to the check-ou t by a solid 45 seconds, 1:10 to Cayer's 1:55. In the second
tig ht section Cayer came into his stri de
s o m ew h a t, and bested Kell y a poi nt,
and almost a bit m ore, w hen Kelly went
5:56 a nd Cayer d id a 4:40. Neith er one
too k the fast est score throug h the sectio n, tho ug h.
Ho nda ride r Dave Carlson Jr. made it
into the top five w ith that ho nor, dropping a 4:03. Check number five was the
point of controversy, andwas thrown
ou t after the m issing arrows we re noted,
but the re was still plenty of po in ts-taking to be had . A check-in afte r the gas
stop and then a long section of gnarly,
rock y trail found Cayer to be the man to
beat, posting a 6 at the secret check-out.
None of his compe titors came within a
po int of his sco re, but Cayer lost concentration be tween secti ons and burned the
next easy check. At this po int , Kelly and
Suzuki rid er Mad ore were the onlyriders within snap p ing distance of Cayer ,
but Kelly sealed his fate by burning the
same chec k an d ad d ing tw o more points
to his sco re. Kelly, Madore an d Cayer all
netted three points at the last check, and
finis he d up w ith 18, 17, and 16 po ints
to tal, respectively:
Ma do re's 17 points we re good
