Donovan Mitchell was im press ive for second while Johnson finishe d a so lid third. " It was muddy out there," Johnson said . "I just ha d a hard tim e getting com forta ble." Early race leader Dostal charged back to a dis appointing eigh th-place finish. Th e secon d moto saw Dostal storm ba ck with a ven gea nce wh ile John son looked more comfortable in the second .spo t. "This is the first time I have raced out here in California," said the 17-year old from New Mexico. "I hope to gai n some experie nc e r a cin g against th e faster riders here on the West Coast." Dostal went on for the und isp ut ed victory while Johnson had a lock on secon d . Third in the m oto w ent to Anaya on his Vito n ix-backe d Yamaha, while Aleman an d Mit chell rounded ou t the top five. In the end, Johnson 's 3-2 fini sh wa s K 42 th e right number combination for th e ove rall victory in the I25cc Intermediate class top ping Mi tchell , Aleman, Dostal and An aya. Brian Ma nley w as the top Vet racer of the day and easi ly smoked the field in the Vet Expert class on a borrowed KTM four-s troke 620. Speaking of th e Ve t Class, Racer X ed itor Davey Coomb s found the going a little bum py in th e 25+ Intermedia te division . After running as h igh as second, Coombs was ru d ely slammed and b oun ced off th e ra ce t rack by Tod d Gould . Coombs pull ed the straw ou t of his footpegs and charged back to fourth beh ind Gould , Kell y Pich el a nd Rob Enge l.
