Nelson dusts Sarona Oaks Motocross By Homer Eubanks RAMONA, CA,APR. 21 Fast and furious mo tocross took place at Barona Oaks Raceway during Sunday's series makeup event, as Team Green's Dustin Nelson stopped by to show the other Pro riders the fastes t way around the Barona Ind ian reservation. In mini actio n [esus Casillas dominated both the Supermimi and 80cc Stock (9-11) classes, and while d oin g so beca me th e first 80cc rid e r to clear th e infie ld t rip le o n his Team Noleen Yama ha. Another rider who could do no wrong was Ronie Loftin, who too k home do uble wins in both the 12Scc (12-15) Novice Stock classes . For man y it was worth the price of ad missia n to see Nelson circumnavigate the technica l Bar ona Oaks mot ocross track. Ne lso n pulled away from the p u rsuing rid er s and a tt ac ked each track obstacle flaw lessly. Not to be up staged, the young Jesus Casillas de mo nstrated a lot of finesse and courage on his 80 as he conquered the infield triple. Until Casillas unlocked the triple combina tion it had been reserved fo r onl y the fast er bigger-bore bikes. Anthony Brucella quickl y too k up the challenge and began clearing the aweso me triple as well. Unfortunately the jump was not as simp le as it seemed, and la ke Elkins suffered a broken arm in his a ttem pt Triple or not, Ca sillas fo u nd formidable competition from John Hopkins in the Supermin i action. Cas illas was able to win bo th mo tos bu t Hopkins was able to give him a good run for the class honors. As the defending class cha mpion, Hopkins may have been able to give Casillas a better challenge but was busy fending off the hea ted a ttacks of Dusten Watson. In the Stock dass Bruscella was the one to ma ke Casillas earn both his wins. Ro nnie Loftin w as able to take home the 125cc (12-15) trop hy but had to earn it first from Steve Yu rkovic. Yurkovic ca me out qu icker in the first moto and Loftin had to settl e for second . In the next mo to, Trav is Fin k h oleshot wi th Yurkovic in tow. Then on the second lap Loftin foun d his way clear of both Yurkov ic and Frink. Yurkovic was able to dog Loftin throughout the moto but had to se ttle for second on the day. In the 125cc No vice Stock actio n Loftin rep eated his ea rlier class win by p ulling out another second-moto win over Yurkov ic. Ju an Izagu irre rode his KTM to the overall victory after placing repea t thi rd-p lace finish es in the Pee Wee First Timer class. Mota one was won by Raym ond Valdez who DN Fed in the second round .
