As of Ju ne 15, the rules on tailsections for Superstrock and Production roa d race classes in W ERA-sanction ed ev en ts will be enforced, according to WERA. Apparently, the small piece of bodywork about the taillight on a stock Honda CBR600 F2 and F3 must be no higher than 1.5 inches above the seat when measured from the top of the cowling to the top of the seat. In addition, WERA will also begin enforcing the requirement for case guards or aftermarket case covers on the right side of the 1996 Suzuki GSXR750s. WERA also suggests (but does no t require) a replacemen t case cover on the left side of 1995 and 1996 Kawasaki ZX6Rs. For more in fo r m a ti o n , ca ll WERA a t 770/924-8404. WERA has a lso annou nce d some rule cha nges to the existing 1996 rulebook. As of June 1, Unlimi ted Twins motorcycles will no t be allowed to race in Ligh tweight Solo 20; over 750cc water-cooled, twins will be allowed in Unlimited Tw ins, bu t they must follow the Superstock rules in Chapter 9 of the WERA rulebook. WERA has also decided to allow full rain tires for use in Superstock competition. The tires must be molded fro m the factory rains with no han d-eu t slicks or intermediates allowed. King (Shayne) wins French SOOcc MX GP A second -moto wi n sealed up the overall win for New Zealand's Shayne King at the World Championship 500cc MX round in Plomion, France, on May 3. The KTM rider finis hed second to defending champ Joel Smets in the first moto then wrapped things up with the second-mote victory. It was King's second win of the young, three-race-old series, as he won the series opener in Italy. Afte r winning his first moto of the year, the Belgian, Smets, crashed his factory Husaberg in the second and salvaged fourth, which was still good enough for second overall. Third overall went to King's bro ther Darryll King, on a Honda, who made it a King 1-2 sweep in the second mo to. A fou rth in the firs t moto and a second in the final gave Darryll King third overall. A 6-3 tally gave Germany's Dietmar Lacher, on a Honda , fourth overall, while Swede Peter Johansson completed the top five on a Husqvarna. In the series points chase, Smets still leads, bu t by only fou r poi nts over Darryll King, 89-85. Shayne King is ni ppi ng a t his brother ' s heel s in thi rd with 82 poin ts. . Rupert Walkn er of Aus tria and Johansson are tied for four th with 62 point s each. In Italy on the same day, Belgian Ma m icq Ber voets scored the overall win at the World Cha m pio ns hip 250cc MX GP in Mant ova. Bervoets p iloted his Tea m Bieffe Suzuki RM250 to victory after wi nni ng bo th motos over defending champ Stefan Everts, who wen t 2-2 on his RWJ Ho nda.
