Travis Petton Jr. showed why he was the 600cc champion las t season by scoring first a . heat an d the n a ma in-ev en t wi n . Petton led every lap of the main while John Garcia gave chase, but fell with two laps to go in the same hole that gathered Chuck Clayton in the Sportsman race. Lap 14 was tou gh on riders. Former SCOR E champion Robbie Nolin battled with John Dupree for wha t eventually wou ld be second place for th e enti re main event. Dupree pa ssed Nolin on lap five for th ird place bu t Nolin would lie in wait and repass Dupree on lap 12. Nolin would be rewarded with second after the Garcia excavation of turn two. The 2SOcc Pro class was awash with new talent. Ron Garcia passed veteran Brad Holt on lap 11 to win his first-ever heat race. Brian Maxwell, Yamaha, who surprised the regulars last season by winning the Doub le Money fina le, led the main unti l lap eight when Garcia first and Holt drop ped Maxwell to third by lap 10.
