made his move to third on lap thr ee and the top
five finishing orde r was se t, McElroy wit h the
win over Hod ges. Price, Styron and Slate, givi ng
McElroy the overal l.

Motocross Spring Series at Fernle y International
Raceway.
In the firs t mo to, Dustin Miller nail ed th e
holeshot and wa ged an on·the-gas, on.th e-pe gs
attack of the technical track . The track had man y
jumps wit h lurns following. some in loose sand.
Miner was insp ired to an aggressive approac h
that paid off. Mike Mason and Drak e McElroy
traded p laces halfway thr ough the race to finish
second and third .
After Miller's father replaced a thrashed rear
sprocket, Miller aga in showed good form as he
holeshot the start and led to the finish. Mason,
Mc Elroy and Bai ley followed . McElro y was
close behi nd Mason as they we n t th roug h the
rockers , bu t lost his position to Bailey.
" I trip led and th e bi ke sli p pe d ou t a nd I
we nt do wn," said McElroy. "That's when Bailey
pa ssed me." McElroy was u p and on the gas,
p assing Bailey to regain th ird just before the finish line on lap thr ee.

tories and a second overa ll on the day, starting

In the firstl25cc A-class moto, McElroy post ed the win ove r Slate, but Slate was able to make
the best of a McElroy cra sh in moto two a nd

McElroy ran into some troubl e in the 250cc A
class, going down at the start of moto one while
Dickson gra bbed the holesh ot over Troy Brewer
a nd David Price . Hod ges had four th a head of
local Allen Alford . McElroy could work himself
up no furth er than fourth by moto 's end, due in
part to the treme ndous battle up front among
Brewer, Dickson and Hod ges. Brewer had made
the pass on Dickson at the end of lap two . The
thr ee riders started the last lap with less than a
b ike le ngth between first and t h ird . Brewer

for class wins.
The toughest contest to call W a.'10 the Senior A
class, in wh ich the lop three riders each carded
four Is . The rulebook was consulted, and the
rider who went the longest without a penalty
was aw ar ded the win .
Prom oted by the North Florida Trials O ub,
the even t fealu red a long loop tha t routed rid ers
to seldo m-seen areas of some of the state 's best
rid in g terrain . The fourth-gear hiIlcIimb areas
were byp assed in favor of sections that featured
hillside logs, big steps and several rock gardens.
Good traction helped keep scores low, and single-digit loop s we re the order of the d ay making
every dab cou nt.
Anne Stites, one of the most popular riders
in the PTA, had a strong ride to win the Beginner class over an eve r·irnproving Jonathan Bell.
The Novice-cIass win wen t to Dale Wenzel with
Bill Hagen second by a sing le point ove r firsttime competitor Glen Buzze.

Ru sty Reyn aud pu lled off a close victory over
Steve Leivan in the third event in the BjEC series
at the Arkansas site of the 1994Two-day qualifier.
Overcast skies pr omi sing rain greeted th e
more than 300 participan ts at key time and they
were not to be d isappointed. Shortly after the
last rider left, a slow drizzle began that would
late r tum int o a steady rai n accompanied by
dense fog.
Th e short loo p ran 55 miles over excellent
terr ain characterized by hundreds of logs of all
sh a pes and sizes tittering the trai l. The long
cou rse ride rs continued for anothe r 40 miles and
expe rienced cha llenging conditions as the rain
began to fall in earnest about halfway th rough
that loop.
Leiv a n h ad th e better of Reynaud on tie
breakers until the last section where he went a
po int down- 9-8. Checks we re truly su rprises in
the de nse fog as visibility d rop ped below 15 feet

ove ra ll with 11 po ints d ropped . The Arkansas
Razorba ck Riders d id an excellent job of checking rid er s in an d ou t of sections, making it an
