Creek MX Par k, with Aaron Day and Ryan Jones com ing u p the big wi nners as the pair team ed up to wi n the three fastest classes. Day made his deb ut in the 12Scc class a big hit , w inning three motos wh ile sweeping the new Schoolbo y class. Day made quick work of the top Sch oolb oy rider s on his firs t trip out, holeshotting his Kawasaki up the famou s Budds Creek start hill ahead of th e pa ck. He never loo ked bac k and le ft Ronnie Mill er and Jeff Slusher to battle over the numb er-two position. Jones did d ouble du ty on the da y, winning all four motos in the 80cc (12-15) Expert and Supermini classes. Jon es, aboa rd his '96 CR80, managed to overcome starting backwards in the . first moto of Supermini to gain the lead before the end of the firs t lap . American Su zuki-backed Travis Pastrana showed up in the Open class, and hooked up w ith Pro-Am r id e rs Shawn Rothstein and Nathan Juergens for the most spectacular race of the da y. Twelve-year-old Pastrana, jus t back from a broken arm. piloted h is RMI25 to a secend-place start, hot on the tail of Rothstein and . his CR25O. The youngster showed Rothstein his tire on several occasions, bu t couldn't find a way past the bigger bike. On the third lap, Pastrana squared of the slippery left-bander after Mountain Dew Mou ntain and shot past a surprised Rothstein.
