The evening' s big winn ers wer e Josh Vickery, who wa< presented the Burt Lockery Schol-
arship awa rd and a $1000 check for his college
education; and Chad Wollaston, wh o wa s voted
Rider of the Year d espite a major injury during
th e race season. Wollaston proved h is importance off the track as well as on.
The Vickery race team dom inance was ma intain ed by Kip Sand ell's multiple state cha mp io ns hi ps in th e 250cc Pro MX a n d Ope n Pro
classes. Shawn Morgan kept pace wi th championshi ps in Open Pro SX and 250cc Pro di vision s.
Andy Atkin grabbed the 125cc Pro MX and Trey
Owens the 125cc Pro class.
Travis Riley sewed up the BOee Exper t class
in both the MX an d SX di vision s and did the
same in the Mini Open class.
Marc Wa nnuth was the 60cc Amateu r MX
and SX cham p, Tom "The Shark" Kendri ck d ou bled u p in the 250cc a nd Open Am a teu r SX
class. Mike Paga no too k th ree state titles in the
Ama teu r 125cc SX. 12Sec MX and 250cc MX
ranks'. Cin dv Bennett won the Wom en No v-ice

Timers Motocross wins

Scott Pelkey and Char les Howell spent the first
half of their Superbowl Sun day earning victories
in the Old Timers Novice and Amateu r classes,
res pectively, durin g the California Racing Clu b's
Sun day motocross a t Los Ange les County Raceway.
Rou nd- one action in the N ov ice class saw
Pelkey lead the pack throu gh the first tu m. Dale.
Brockett ga ted second ahea d of Gabe Gutierrez,
John Webb and Kirk Mu raoka. By the second
lap, Brockett had era sed Pelkey ·s lead and was
searching for a spot to pass. Pelkey kept Brockett
at bay up until the fInal lap where Brockett was
ab le to slip past to take the win . Webb and
Gutierrez argued over third for the entire moto
with Webb holdi ng on to the spo t at the checkers.
Brockett holes ho t moto two aboard his
CR250 with Pelkey and Gutierrez in close form ation. Pelkey latched on to Brockett's rear fender
and the duo started to pull away from Webb
and Asker Lamkjaer, both of w hom ' were now
battling over third.
Pelkey put the move on Brockett for the lead
'at the midway po int and immediately started to
pull away. The second half of the mota was all
Pelkey' s, as the Honda rider stretched his lead to
15 seconds o ve r Brockett by th e final circuit.

Lucas held down second place until he overshot

Howe ll.
For the next five laps, Lucas and Howell battled ove r the to p spo t. Toward the end o f the
moto, lappers started to become a facto r in the
race. Howell would slip past the lappers on the
fast straights and leave the difficult passing for
Lucas in the one-li ne d sa ndy turn s . Ho well
tu rned it up on the last lap to take the win by a
comfortable mar gin. Jennings came across third
wi th Phil Black and Carlos Marin rounding ou t
the top five.

Lu cas. Richard Bealer worked u p from the back
of the pa ck for a well -deserved th ird ahead of
Meiner and Black.

Brian Storrie rushed for one Pro win. two runner·
up finishes , a cou ple of fourths and an off-pace
fifth to become the 1995 Overall Mo torcycle
points champ for the Wh iplash Mo torsp orts
desert racing series . The bespectacled AA Enduro
rider (who remi n ds some of a young Dick
Burleson), who now returns to the Lone Star
State, took to the w ide-ope n desert like an
armadillo to a highway. Storrie, a Motorcycle
Mechanics Institute student, burs t upon the local
desert theater 'un ann ou nced and u nherald ed at
Gila Bend in one of those "Who is that guy?" scenarios with his narrowed Texa..co enduro tree bars
on his KX2SO.
