LaPaglia lined u p on his brand-new, or ange KTM 50, then p roceed ed to pull a three-bikelength holeshot ove r th e field of anx ious pr eteens. Wh ile LaPaglia put d ista nce between him self and the field, a three-rid er battl e developed bet ween Bryce Ter zian, Chad Gor es an d Chase Takacs. Each time Gor es wo ul d get close en ough to tak e a poke at Ter zian , th e se cond -p lace rid er wo u ld resp ond by gra bb ing a ha nd fu l of thr ottle and jumping to the top of the step- u p jum p . This con tinued for a few laps, befo re a hardcharging Jas on Griffin surprised Gores with an insi de- line pas s for third. With two laps left in the race, Terz ian came to life. Ter zia n stepped up the pace to reel in LaPaglia and pass him for th e lead . During the fin al lap it loo ke d like Te rzian wou ld get by LaPag lia, as he trie d not once but tw ice to make the pass . Unfortunatel y for Terzian a sma ll bobble in the las t few hundred ya rd s of the race cost hi m the chance for victory. " I d id n ' t think m uch abou t winni n g th e nu mber-one p late wh en the seaso n sta rted." said an elated Perry after Sun day's final sprint. "Bu t as th e season went on, ev erything just star ted to work out." Perry had to borrow a bike from friend and fellow com petitor Scott Willock just to com pe te in the first three even ts of the seaso n becau se his Kawasaki had yet to be deli vere d, but after he took possession of the Kawasaki ZX6R. he never looked back . The formula for Perry's su ccess is the same one use d las t year by Dale Kieffer and for three years befor e by Stu Morrison, which was to race as many races as possible, win as man y as po ssible an d stay in the sadd le at all costs. Perry used this form ula on Sund ay whe n he raced in seven classes, holeshot nearly ev ery start and scored no lower than fourth in each race. For 1996, Perry pla ns to team up wi th A.I. Ammann an d ra ce as ma ny Natio nal Supersport even ts as possible. Although it was Pe rry who took th e number-one plate , it was Mark Mill er who dominat ed the racing action at th e last race of thi s sea son . Mill er was sim p ly u ntouchable. He w on every race he en te red by a hu ge margin an d was the only rid er to' d rop in th e l :11s all weekend .
