Everyo ne expected the first moto to be hotly contested, but McAlister had a different idea . By the end of the second lap, the 27·year-old McAlister stormed into the lead and simply ran away. While the Suzu ki rider was per forming his disappearing act, the rest of the pa ck sort ed Itself in to a Mi chael Yo rk/ Bre tt DeV r ies IJimm y LaMastu s freight train that ran unchanged for the rest of the moto. The second moto was a d ifferent story, bu t featured the same resu lt. LaMastus blasted away w ith th e holeshot tha t w as the p re lud e to an in tens e two-lap battl e w ith first-mo te winn er McAli ster. Mike Alessi posted a fou r-moto sweep of the SOcc Open and 60cc (0-18) d iv isions, and finished a respectable fifth overall in his first BOec race aboard his new Suzuki. Chad Robbins ran up ' fro n t ea rl y in the d ay, but an un planned encounter with the water tank ultimately ended his day. In the end, Andrew Turn er posted the 80 cc wi n, w hile Jam es Full er an d Vi nce nt Rhoad es rounded ou t the top three in the .BOcc class. which was the second-largest class of the da y. The real excitement, however. was reserved for the end of the day wh en a brand -new 1996 YZI25c c d onated by Tho usa nd Oak s Yama ha wa s raffled off. The finalists in the raffle were each given a key to try in a lock that was placed on the motorcycle. DEC.3 , Th e final race of the CMMC season at Barona Oaks Raceway ended with heated battles in the Supermi ni and Old Pharts A classes, wi th both class cha mpionships being decid ed at the final checkered flag in each. The Su permin i tit le was u p for g rabs between John H opkins and Jesus Casillas, but Sean Ham blin jumped into the pictu re and stole most of the limeli gh t in the first mot o before crash ing late in the mota and dropping ou t. The race ap pea re d to belon g to the second- placed Ho p kins, but Casillas sne aked up and slip ped inside Hopkins in the final tum to steal the win. 25
