Racew ay, and each claimed a class win
as Racing Enterprises Motocro ss closed
ou t its 1995 motocross season .
Alth ou gh bo th riders were on th e
race track at the same time, they were in
sep arate classes and thus sco red sepa rate ly. Fowler had entered the I25cc Pro
class but found himself locked in a titan ic struggle for overall sup remac y w ith a
pa ir of h ot-riding Vet Pr os in KTM-'
mounted Will y Musgrav e and fo rmer
AMA I25cc Nati onal Champion Ma rty
Smith . The three riders battled it out in
the first moto , with Fow ler tak ing the
point early in the race whil e Mu sgrave
and Smith stru ggled for second overa ll
in the moto and the lead in the Vet Pro
cla ss. Fowl er wo uld never be caug h t,
and he crossed the line ahead of the 250mounted Musgra ve and Smith, who finished first and seco nd, resp ecti vely, in
the Vet Pro class. Ty Kady finished well
off the lead pace to claim second in the
I25cc Pr o class. Kad y w oul d not sta rt
the second moto.
Further back, Na eg le had stru gg led
off the Vet Junior gate wit h a sixth-p lace
s ta rt, but he quickly forged hi s way
tow ard the front to do battl e with class
lead er Jeff Gray. Naegle con tinued to
do g Gray for the majority of th e moto
before makin g his way int o the lead just
after the d ownhill on the Carlsbad Freewa y. Jeff Seifert wa s also in the chase,
keeping his RMl25 pinned to the stops
as h e flew by Gray late in th e mot o
whil e trying to ca tch the fleeing Naegle.
But N aegle had b ui lt up enoug h o f a
lead to claim the mot o win.
Fowl er got ou t-ho rsep ow ered at the
start of the second ProlIn termediate l
Ju nior m o to and soon found himself
struggling to get pa st Vet Intermediate
Ed d ie Moo re whil e Musgrave es ta blish ed an ea r ly le a d . Fowl er finall y
passed Moor e an d caug ht up to Mu sgrave, wh o wa s rid ing smooth ly and
makin g it all but impo ssible for Fow ler
to find a way pa st. Musgrave continued
to hold the lead, but a lap ped rid er ultimatelv sea led his fate wh en the lapp er
in ad vertently cut him off on th e fin al
lap, allow ing Fow ler to make an outside
pa ss for the lead and the win. A frus tra te d Mu sg r a ve was secon d ahead o f
Smith, wh o cra shed ea rly in th e moto
before making his way to the front.
Meanwhile, Naegle had taken the Vet
Junior lead mu ch earlier in th e rnot o,
but Seifert wa s a man on a mission as he
ran Naegl e d own late in the moto and mad e se veral attemptsto pass. Naegle
was able to hold Seifert off at every turn
and eve n ran into a bit of good lu ck
wh en he stalled in one of the final turns
bu t was able to get moving again to take
the win before Seifert could get around
him. Seifert's 2-2 moto finish es were still
good en ou gh for second overall in the
Vet Juni or cla ss, w hile Gray fin ish ed
third overall with a 3-3.
