NOV. 19 Newly crowned National End.uro Champion Ty Davis handily won the "Leapin' Lizard" Enduro near the town of New Cuyamu, California, for the third consecutive year. The host club, Central Coast Motorcycle Association, put on a treacherous event that wound through the Ballinger Canyon riding area and featured many types of off-road terrain. Davis, fresh off a win at the Baja 1000, used this race as a "working holiday" and beat his closest competitor by just over one minute. The majority of the entries zeroed the first check, which was located at the end of an 18mph section, but the speed averages would get faster while the ~ourse got rougher. Most riders dropped points .at the second check, a special test that ran through a whooped-out sand wash with averages of 24-30 mph. The seCond special test was routed through a rough, rocky section of hills where the dusty conditions and 24-mph average would claim points from most of the field. The first difficult section of the second loop wound through a tight, off-camber seotion of trails located in a forest of manzanilia that damaged many a jersey and quite a few spiri.ts as well. This test would be a "walk in the park" when compared with what was in store. At the 68-mile mark riders were sent into a steep, rocky, downhill creek bed with walls just wider than a set of trimmed handlebars. Fallen trees that had to be ducked under or ridden
