IIN:TH.E WIND Emesto Fonseca (Yam), Tommy Harrison (Suz) and Casey Johnson (Kaw) were the big award winners in the 24th Annual Florida Winter Olympics, held in Gainesville, Florida on November 23-26. Fonseca was awarded the Arai Helmet Award and the AXO Bronze Boot Award for being the highest-scoring rider in any division and the highest-scoring Youth-division rider. Harrison earned the Scott USA Golden Goggle Award for being the highestscoring Amateur racer, while Johnson was given the Dunlop Silver Tire Award for being the highest-scoring Expert. The AMA has announced two new venues for the 1996 AMA Superbike National Championship. The fourth round of the series will be held at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in Florida, on May 10-12, and .the series will conclude with a round at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 3-6. The $58 million Homestead facility features a 2.1-mile road course which utilizes the front and back straights of a superspeedway, and the event will be promoted by Ralph Sanchez, the man who promoted the AMA Nationals held in downtown Miami and 1990 and 1991.
