short order. At the head of the charging pack,
Jordan had his hands tull trying to keep BirkelBack behind him while Jordan Jordan ran in
third, within striking distance of the leaders.
By lap three Birkel-Back got serious and
crossed the finish-line jump right on Jordan's
tail. Into the first turn Jordan protected the
inside line to hold off second-placed BirkelBack's challenge only to be passed in the next
tum.
The two riders traded the lead in a dramatic
battle that ultimately ended in a non-finish for
Birkel-Back as he crashed upon landing from a
.double jump.
Jordan went on to take the checkers, followed by Edwards, Wright, Hicks, who had
come from the back of the pack, and Hom.
Birkel-Back was able to return in moto two
and bounced back strongly as he took the ,,<,rly
lead, followed by Wright, Jordan Jordan, Joe Jordan and Hicks. Moto-one ",inner Jordan quickly
took over second with Jordan Jordan following.
It didn't take long for the leaping trio to put
a 15-second led on fourth place. Once again the
leaders began trying to pass each other in the
ftrst few turns, but this time it was Birkel-Back
who was protecting the inside line as Jordan
fought unsuccessfully to get around him. BirkelBack won the race but with his DNF from mota
one, Jordan took the Expert overall, while Jordan Jordan ran 1-1 for the Intermediate overall.

Honda-mounted Billy Demastry captured both
the 250cc B and 17-24 classes during motocross
racing action at Southern Ohio's Old Town MX
Park.
The flashy Ohio native used great starts and
fas~ consistent riding to shake off the advances
of Dallas Avery and Jeff Flora in the super-competitive 250cc B class. In the 17-24 division
Avery put on a furious attack against the aggressive yet smooth Oemastry, but Demastry was
able to gain comfortable leads by the end of the
motos to his advantage.
Marietta, Ohio's Mike Blair was uristoppable
in the 25+ and 250cc A classes as he carved up
the track like a Christmas turkey on his way to
four moto wins.
'1 broke my 125, so I had to use my 250 all
day, but it worked out fine", said tile Micro-Age
computer store-sponsored Blair.

Brandes hits bUll's-eye
at Perris Motocross
By Tony Alessi
PERRIS, CA, NOV. 5
Michael Brandes buried the competition in both
125cc and 250cc Pro classes by posting a fourmalo sweep in the two divisions during the final
round of the GFJ Fall Series at Perris Raceway.
Even though Brandes was the dominant
racer in the first 250cc Pro race, Mike Metzger
stole the spotlight with some wild, seat-of-thepants riding. After Metzger muscled his way
into the top three, he lofted his new Bill's Pipesprepared Honda directly over the top of Spud
Walters on a large difficult double.
"I didn't think that it was too much of a
risk:' Metzger said about the gutsy maneuver.
[n the end the "in retirement, out of retiremenr' Metzger finished second behind Brandes,
whose riding style mimicked that of forme.r
supercross sensation Ron Lecien.
Brandes had no problems blitzing the field in
