I-< Q) S Q) > o z 28 Templeton two for three at Lake Sugar Tree Motocross By Jay and Sharon Hauser AXTON, VA, OCT. 9 Shane Templeton took his RMs to two overall class victories, posting four moto wins in the 125cc A and 250cc A divisions at the legendary Lake Sugar Tree Motocross Park. Templeton gave his best shot at taking the 425cc A division as well, but one of the area's fastest Senior riders, Scottie Shipley, was able to shut Templeton down and score the class win with a 1-2 score. Templeton held on to the runner-up spot in 25+ A racing with a 4-1 to barely edg~ out Mike Eastwood. Shipley also came back to hound Templeton in 250cc A action, taking second in both motos behind Templeton, as well as both 30+ A moto wins for that class overall. Templeton came off the start in mote one of the 125cc A class leading over Chad Newton. Terry Kennedy had his Honda going for third hard, to work past Maryland's Robert McWhorter. Templeton and Newton opened up a gap on the rest of the field by lap three and set off to the checkered Aag. McWhorter held onto third Newton grabbed the moto-two holeshot. Chris Morgan established himself in third over McWhorter. Newton was looking as if he would run away with it, but Templeton quickly moved up to take over the lead when. Newton's front tire went flat. Templeton went on to an easy moto victory and Newton did an excellent job holding down the second spot for the entire moto. Morgan had turned around a mediocre first-moto eighth into a strong third in mota two, which just barely got him into the top five on the day with fifth. McWhorter took the final podium position overall with a third. Results 50: 1. Matt ~ (LEM~ 2 Austin Cooper (Yam); 3. Devon Pilkington (KTM); 4. Child Muterspaugh (KTM); 5. Tyler Gantt (KTM} 60: 1. I Following a first-moto runner-up finish, Brian Jaramillo came back to win the second moto and take home the overall in the 125cc Junior class at CMC's Sunstar Sprockets Trans-Cal Nationals at the newly completed Rainbow n MX track. Moto one saw Jaramillo pull the holeshot· aboard his FMF built KXI25 while Mike Gibson and Casey Gould diced for positions. Riders were all over the place during the first lap, Gib- son dropped Jarami1lo to second while Ito Posca was on the gas after a poor start and moved into tnird. Jaramillo was holding his own in second place as Posca started to move in for the kill. The track was technical and Posca was having trouble finding a place to pass. Posco's frustration got the best of him during the third lap; Posca was allover the tail end of Jaramillo, and the upand-coming rider's impatience got the best of him when he overjumped the rhythm section and planted himse.lf on the ground. Up front, Gibson was riding a flawless ra,ce a·s he continued to puJI away from the field. JaramAio was sitting pretty in the second spot after Posca's disaster. The battle for the third, fourth and fifth spots were between Gould, Tommy Harrison and Cory Gibbons, when the fight was over, Gould claimed the last podium finish. Gibbons crossed the line first at the finish while Jaramillo finished second. In the second moto, Jaramillo was again the winner of the race to the first tum but was not about to relinquish his spot. Jaramillo extended his lead quickly as Dusty Walters held second and Chris Thompson and Mike Gibson went at each other. Thompson held his own while Gibson was willing to do what it takes to get by. Gibson and Thompson collided in midair but, somehow managed to stay on two wheels. Gibson went on to take third. Jaramillo was riding his own race out front, Wallers held off Gibson until the last lap until Gibson squeezed by to take over. An elated Jaramillo crossed the line to take the overall win while Gibson's hardfoughtrace gave him second for the day. Results P/W (4-6): I. Cole Seely (KTM}i 2. Ryan McClintock (KTM); 3. Loop had rounded the corner in second with Hemme riding his shirttails in third, while Noone and Bergantz battled for fourth. The second- and third-place riders were going at it hard and heavy with Hemme sticking a wheel in on Loop in every comer. But Loop wasn't budging an inch and continued to hold his ground lap after lap. l1ehind them, Bergantz finally found a way around Noone.
