Shan H o Z 26 Rainy weather couldn't dampen the enthusiasm at the Georgia Karting Komplex Sunday afternoon. The overnight and morning showers may have held the rider count down, but it made the surface tacky and fast for the local hotshoes. The action got underway with Patrick johnson making a last-lap pass on Eddie Tumlin II to take first place in the 50cc main. Tumlin closed the gap to zero in tum four but couldn't quite squeeze by. Brandon Weaver continued his winning way. by taking the 80cc win. Brandon overtook Garrett Weaver early and enjoyed a comfortable lead by race end. Garrett held on for second over female competitor Merritt johnson. The two best races of the day turned out to be between the same two riders. Tennessee's Billy Campbell brought his Rotax down to do battle in the Senior and Semi-Pro Trophy class. Up to his challenge was local Vintage charger Duyvayne Montgomery. In Senjor-c1ass action, Campbell got the holeshot and led all the way to the white flag before Montgomery .uddenly squeezed his Yamaha twin past the unsuspecting Campbell for the win. When the same two riders met again for the Semi-Pro Trophy class, another great battle ensued., but this time Campbell looked a bit more determined and bulldozed his way to the win over Montgomery and Yamaha pilot Rick Weaver. Becklin stages COUp at Coos Bay Road Race By Camby Young coos SAY, OR, ocr. 8 Don Becklin took the 600 Supersport win away from Roadracing Association of Motorcycle's new number-one plate holder Mike Durel at the Coos Bay International Speedway. Durel held the lead early in the main event but was passed by Beaverton Honda/Yamahasponsored Becklin and David Cook at the halfway point. A third Beaverton rider, Sean Frith, passed Durel two turns before the checkered. Then, out of nowhere, Durel powered it on the back straight to reclaim third by three-quarters of a bike length. A special awards ceremony was held immediately after the races and the top season RAM finishers were announced, First-place winners were Mike Durel, 600 Superb ike, 600 Supersport, Unlimited, Formula and Heavy GP; josh Bryan, Lightweight Supersport; Gage Freeman, 750 Supersport; Brian Badura, Lightweight GP and Lightweight Twins; Craig Hansen, Open Supersport; and Mike Gillette, Singles. Charles Ellis trailed in second until falling in a comer letting O'Malley increase his early lead. Eric Pencosky moved into second as Richard Calabrese held on in third. Golding made his move and advanced into second followed by Pencosky. Golding then passed O'Malley for the lead. After '''me .ide-by-side race action, O'Malley recaptured the lead and piloted his Orient Express-backed KX to the moto win. Golding scored second, and Gary Schmalz moved up to claim third. O'Malley again shot into the lead to kick off moto two. Golding and Ellis trailed the leader into the Supercross section. Ellis throttled his way into second as Golding and Schmalz followed. O'Malley and Ellis pulled away from the pack and Ellis challenged for the lead but O'Malley grabbed a handful and maintained his lead. The second-place battle heated up when Ellis dumped it in a comer, handing Golding second. The last lap set the stage, with O'Malley leading and Golding camped on his rear fender. As the pair twisted through sand, O'Malley maintained a slight lead. On the final uphill jump, O'Malley missed a shift, and Golding seized the opportunity to grab the lead and take the overall win. O'Malley was consoled in the fact that his second-place finish wrapped up the junior Mini-dass Championship for the 1995 season. Results P/W: 1. Bri.m Murphy (Yam); 2. Yezek Rolls at Nelsonville SX By David L Patton Jr. NELSONVll.I.E, OH, SEPT. 30 Davey Yezek was Aawless at the season-ending round of the 1995 Budweiser Summer Supercross Series, claiming all four moto wins in Proclass action. Top amateur riders also scored convincing wins. Mark Burkhart blasted to convincing wins in the Schoolboy class and jeff Gibson destroyed the Mini Seniors. When the 125cc Pro Oass hit the first turn Shane Lawson had the lead, but Davey Yezek took over a few turns later. josh DeMuth and james Eickel rode in front of Lenny Baker and Tommy Collier. Yezek quickly pulled away from the field and Lawson opened up an edge over the battle for third. DeMuth held up under Eckel's constant pressure and would grab third at the nag only 20 feet behind Lawson. Eickel took fourth." I got a terrible start and just rode bad," said a disappointed Eickel. Baker finished fifth ahead of Scott McMillin. Yezek led Eickel and Baker through the first turn in moto two and left the field. Lawson was back in the pack but pushing to the front. lawson and Scott McMillin were hammering around the track chasing Baker and Dick Hoy and their battle moved them up to Hoy's rear wheel. McMillan led Lawson around Hoy and josh DeMuth was quickly making up for a bad start. Baker was next to have a problem, giving McMillin third. DeMuth ran in fifth. Lawson finally passed McMillin before the double that leads into the esses, and set out after Eickel with three laps to go. DeMuth also caught M.cMillin and the two young riders fought for fourth. Lawson nearly caught Eckel as they crossed the finish line side by side. "I missed a shift in the esses. [ could have passed Ekkel," said Lawson. DeMuth outjumped McMillin on the big triple on the last lap to take fourth. Results 50 (4--6): 1. Billy Sprankle (KTM); 2. Chris Thompson (KTM): 3. Tom PeUett (KTM); 4. Ryan Reedy (KTM); 5.
