·FIRST LOOK 1996 Trials machinery .
Scarpa Easy
umors have circulated for some time now that the French Scorpa factory
would unveil a radically different bike for 1996, and at the Trial des
Nations, that rumor proved true. Dubbed the Easy, the new Scorpa on display was a preproduction unit, the only one presently in existence. The tricklooking motorcycle was roped off, away from gawkers who might have sat on
and scratched the bike, and no technical information was made available.
Looking at the machine, it's obvious that Scorpa has abandoned the popular
perimeter-frame design in favor of the more traditional single-backbone, doubledowntube style. The bike as a whole is tiny, much smaller than last year's Works
295. No subframe is visible, leading us. to believe that it is housed inside the airbox and underneath the rear fender. The rear swingarm is a two-piece unit
which is bolted together in the center, just in front of the wheel.
As for the engine, the Rotax powerplant doesn't appear to be changed externally, but that's not to say that the insides haven't been altered.
Conventional PaioH forks handle the suspension duties up front, and
although we couldn't tell for sure, our guess is that a Boge shock takes care of
the bumps in the rear.
The bike is stunning, visually. From the insect-look headlight to the black and
metallic pea-green fenders with purple highlights, the Scorpa is one of a kind.
The Scorpa Easy will be imported into the United States by the Tryals Shop.
