THE 1995 WHITE BROTHERS DIRT TRACK Continued from 21 pag~ all the daring outside-pass attempts and race-track craft he could muster were for naught. Springer was stuck back in ,seventh place at the finish. Matt Wait took the win followed by Hacker and Eric Bostrom. Nate Wait was fourth with Roeder fifth and Ben Bostrom sixth. "I went into this race just wanting to get the holeshot so that 1 didn't have to race with Hacker and Springer," Matt Walt said. "I decided it would be safer to let them figh t their own battle behind me - and it worked." Afterward, Springsteen reflected on the title race, which may be slipping from ills fingers, with a rather businesslike attitude. "I'm gonna have to win Del Mar," Springsteen said stoically. "He's going to have to finish third or better." Hacker'offered little more. "I don't want to say anytillng," an evasive Hacker said. "I'll worry about it next week in the main event." {X Pomona Fairplex Pomona, California Results: October 8, 1995 (Round 23 of 24) HEAT 1 (10 l~ps; 10 riders, top 2 tnns£cr): 1. Garth Brow (H-D); 2.
