recover from dead last to finish third but was
two minutes behind Fipps.
The AA Experts didn't learn from the Pros
who started on the front row. Chris Carter, Eric
Hess and Tom Robinson aU ·went down in the
first tum too, but at least not on top of each
other. The short starting area left the riders little
room to separate. David Culpepper escaped on
the inside with the holeshot and led Mike
Abbott for half a lap. Abbott slipp~d past
Culpepper for the win as the two raced to the
finish a minute apart. The race was for third as
Hess worked up from last place after his firstturn mistake. Tom Robinson got behind Hess
and put the pressure on. In what has become a
familiar sight, Robinson overtook Hess on the
last lap.
