Lane rode alone to the finish six minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Hoenshell held on ror second while Donnie McMillon rounded out the top three. Open Expert jim McQueary had one of his toughest battles to date. The current points leader had to chase down two riders to get his victory. Steve Mack had the early lead before stalling his XR6OO. Todd Slavik, McQueary and the rest of the big bores went by as he struggled to revive the Honda. Slavik kept a torrid pace in the first two laps as McQueary did everything to keep Slavik in sight. At the halfway point McQueary got his chance when Slavik lost control and stalled in a rocky creek bottom. McQueary did not have much room to squeeze his Husky 360 by and used Slavik's leg for traction. McQueary went on to a three-minute victory as Slavik faded during the later laps. Don Henson filled out the podium behind Slavik. First-time competitor Brian Evans aced the 30+ Expert class on his Yamaha. Evans had a four-minute advantage over Mike Sullivan at the finish. Evans' time also gave him the overall Expert trophy for the day. PRO: I. Oem Lane (KTM); 2. Oay Hoenshell (Suz~ 3. Donnie McMillon (KTM); 4. Brent Nalley (Yam); S. Curtis Kirchmeier ~ ..... SEn. 9 Justin Gutierrez put his mind to winning one mota at a time and scored the overall victory in the l2Scc Beginner class at the Starwest Supercross Park. Dustin jameson grabbed the holeshot in the first 12Sec Beginner mota with Gutierrez a heartbeat behind and the rest of the pack in tow. jameson began to pull away from Gutierrez, who in turn had his hands full with a hardcharging Mead. jameson was taking advantage of the open track in front of him and was riding smoothly while continuing to stretch his lead, while Mead went for the inside line in an attempt to get by Gutierrez but wound up taking a soil sample just before the infield double. This left Gutierrez in a lonely second place. With one lap to go, jameson had opened up his lead to almost half of the track and went on to take an easy win. Gutierrez was the runner-up with a gap back to Mead, jeff Burton and Aaron Anderson. jameson holeshot mota two as well but lost control of his bike in the horseshoe and went down. He quickly remounted but would have to charge from the back of the pack. Gutierrez inherited the lead and, with Mead riding his shirt-tail, began to pull away from the pack. Mead stuck to the rear fender of Gutierrez and began to stick a wheel in on the Honda rider before Mead's bike jackknifed, throwing him to the ground. Jameson had been working his way up through the pack, and he passed the fallen Mead, taking over second place and closing rapidly on the leader. Gutierrez was on the gas but Jameson was able to close to Gutierrez's rear fender at the halfway point in the race. Gutierrez picked up the pace and began to make minor errors in an attempt to keep jameson behind him. His wild riding also prevented Jameson from making a pass as he was afraid of crashing with Gutierrez. On the last lap, jameson dived under Gutierrez in the corner after the big step-down jump only to have Gutierrez grab a handful of throttle and clear the "going away double jump" and reclaim the lead, this time holding it to the checkered flag. jameson was never more than a couple of feet away from Gutierrez but could not get by as the Honda rider took his first win aboard his new bike. Mead was again a distant third holding off Burton and Anderson, who rounded out the top-five positions. Raulla Pee Wee Track STK A: 1. Sean Borkenhagen (lCTM); 2. Justin Workman (Yam); 3.
