Kusanovich tough at Patterson vintage trial Chris Agajanian Presents By Matt Hilgenberg PATIERSON, CA, AUG. 20 Steve K,usanovich was one of four riders to have a one-point day as he topped the Modem Classic Expert class at round five of the AHRMA West Regional Trials Series held at Frank Raines Park in north-eentral Califomia_ August weather with temperatures in the mid- to high-90s helped dictate the day's sections as trialmasters Derek Belvoir and Ken Marecak laid out five sections in a running stream. The five sections were ridden three times each going upstream, then after a 30minute lunch break, ridden three times each downstream, for a total of 30 sections. The Starman Productions event drew 40 entries. Kusanovich topped the charts in the largest class of the day, Modem Classic Expert, with his single point to the nine m~rks of runner-up David Humphrey. Kawasaki KT250 rider Scott Chapman was another four points back in third. The other three class-winning riders with one-point rides included Ken Dodge (Premier Heavyweight Rigid Master), Steve Darrow (premier Heavyweight Masler) and Andy Johnson ijunior Expert). Steve Muscatel dropped his usual four-speed Bultaco ride in favor of a Honda Tll25, and still managed to win the Modern Classic Master class over the Suzuki of John Moore and Victor Boocock's Honda. Another Honda-mounted class winner was Jack Monger, who earned the win in Modern Classic Advanced aboard his TUSO. Jim Zopfi edged Barbara Don Carlos for second on a tie £:\' breaker.
