MORENO VALLEY,CA,AUG. 12 Billy Lavorcie came away with the win in the 125cc Novice class during round five of the Shoei Hehnet/Oakley Goggle giveaway series at Starwest Supercross Park. Lavorde and Nell Alonzo offered the spectators some of the hottest competition seen thus far as the pair battled to the fini h for the overall victory, The first moto was a wire-to~wire Alonzo benefit as Lavorde was doomed to play bridesmaid to the DG Performance-sponsored Kawasaki rider. Dan Eckman, 12-year-Qld Brian Jaramillo and Tim Clayton rounded out the top five while Frank Pace brought the moto to a dose. However, when the gate dropped to start the second moto, Alonzo had company as he rounded the first tum in the double-horseshoe-shaped starting area. Lavorcie, Jaramillo and Jose Polasek were bearing down on him, determined not to let him get away this time. While Lavorde kept the heat turned up on Alonzo, Eckman was working his way up through the pack after a less-than-stellar start. By the end of the first lap, he had passed three riders and was now working on Josh Battenfield. Up front, the action remained intense as Alonzo and Lavorcie were never more than a few feet apart. Lavoreie would get close enough to Alonzo to stick a wheel in on the DC rider. This would result in Alonzo turning up the wick a notch, resulting in the two riders pulling farther away from the main body of competitors. On the last lap, Lavorde dropped back in the "Snake Pit" and then caught back up as the pair ran down the back straightaway. The FMF Renegade-sponsored Lavorcie then began t9 attack Alonzo from every eUrection. Lavorcie let it all hang out and caught Alonzo two feet from the checkered flag to take the overall win.
