But this time it was David Atherton, father of current AMA Grand National contender Kevin Atherton, who made the news as the Michigan rider put his immaculate BSA Gold Star out front of Wills' Harley WR and never looked back. Showing great consistency, Atherton put in eight quick laps without appearing to vary his line by more than a couple of inches during the entire race. In the end, it was Atherton first and Wills a distant second. For the first seven of eight laps, the Modem 250cc final looked like a runaway win for Georgia rider Darrell Bryant. The only problem was that someone forgot to tell that to John Plumb. The New York native, who started almost dead last, seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere, and he pulled even with Bryant between turns three and four on the last lap. But it was to no avail as Bryant twisted the grip a little harder on his Yamaha to edge Plumb by less than a foot. Donate to Hedden blazes Nevada County Fair Speedway By M'.Sober THE GRASS VAlLEY, CA, AUG. 4 Newly crowned 1995 Fast Fridays Track Champion Bobby "The Blaze" Hedden continued to top Northern California's finest speedway riders by taking a come-from-behind win in the Scratch Main event, before an enthusiastic crowd of 2100 at the picturesque Nevada County Fairgrounds. Jim "The Jammer" Sisemore pushed his way to the checkered Hag in the Handicap Main Event, while the Second Division win was taken by California Highway Patrolman Mark Duval. Bobby Hicks drew the inside pole position for the Scratch main event, and to his right in the second, third and fourth starting positions sat Bobby Hedden, Tommy Hedden and Sisemore, respectively. The two Heddens were the first off the line at the start but both entered the initial set of turns wide which allowed Hicks to sneak past on the inside and take over the lead. Both Heddens continued in hot pursuit for the next two laps before Tommy succumbed to the deep pea-gravel conditions and bit the tum-four cushion just prior to the while flag. Bobby Hedden continued to challenge Hicks, who now also had to contend with SisemorE: on the inside line. Sisemore got past Hicks to take the lead briefly, but had to settle for second, as Hedden's lasttum slingshot move proved to be the edge he needed to the win in a photo finish. Sisemore would not be denied in the Handi.cap program, gaining the win from the 5O-yard line. Also coming through traffic from the SO . was second-place finisher Bobby Hedden. Sisemore and Hedden needed all five laps too run down early race readers Rick Schambers and Chad Felicio, who began the night on the zer<>and l~yard markers, respectively. Travis McDonald made the Junior Division One main event after returning from a brief fling overseas riding exibitions in England. But his anticipated battle with Billy Janniro never materialized as both riders ended up eating gravel, giving Matt Proto an opportunity to run away with the victory.
