lengths back. Diloreto passed Wiechen back on
lap five and came in third with Wiechen finishing fourth.
Miller got a great start in moto two with
Diloreto on his wheel this time. Tiearney quickly
rounded the fint turn and passed Diloreto. Miller
and Tiearney then left the pack to do battle for the
win. In every tum, Miller and Tiearney had close
encounters. Miller kept his cool and Tieamey bobbled on the honeshoe tum, giving Miller the extra
seconds he needed to take the checkered and the
overall. Tiearney was second foUowed by Diloreto and Wiechers.

Hicks dominates
Spring Valley Motocross
By Terry F1lImlng
CLYDES, TX, AUG. 20
David Hicks won back-to-back motos to claim the
overall victory in the 2SOcc Novice class at the
Spring Valley motocross track. As the gate fell on
moto one, Hicks launched his Suzuki down the
straightaway and took the holeshot through the
first right-hand comer. Roosting hard through the
whoop section, he tried to get some early distance
from the pack, but the competition was coming on
strong and remained within striking distance.
Running second was Michael Edwards, foUowed
by Craig Howell in third, Stacy Hom in fourth
and Donnie OUver in fifth. But it was all Hicks up'
front, leading the parade to the checkers with the
order behind him remaining unchanged.
The fire\:Vorks began in the second moto.
HoweU got tangled up in the fint turn and hit the
ground hard. He picked it up and continued on
for the fint lap, but called it a day after that. Hom
took the early lead with Hicks in hot pursuit.
Tony Poor, Michael Edwards and Scott Wegner
rounded out the top f.ive. Poor and Edwards
fought vigorously for third with Ed>yards coming
out on top. Not giving up easily, Poor pinned the
throttle in an attempt to reclaim third but washed
out in a corner instead, handing fourth position t9
Wegner. Poor remounted and finished out the
mota. By the fourth lap, Hicks found a fast Une
and took the lead. He was challenged repeatedly,
but not matched, and he held 00 for the secondmota and the overall win.
