Can-Am 250 narrowly ahead of Maicomounted Jean Ramsay and Bultaco man
Hugh Weaver. Smith and Weaver closely hounded Ramsay in the second moto,
with Weaver slipping into second late in
the race, Ramsay's 2-1 finishes. earned
'him the overall, while Smith's 3-1 made
him runner-up ahead of Weaver.
Another close one was Sportsman
500 Expert, where Tim Weaver (Bultaco)
spent the first moto battling with Hudson and nearly nipped the Maico rider
at the checkered flag, Todd Hamilton
(Mai) freed himself from a dice with
Doug Wentzell (Yam) to place a close
third. In the second mota, Weaver
grabbed the holeshot and never relinquished the lead, despite the determined efforts of Hudson and Hamilton.
Weaver's 2-1 finishes were good enough
for the overall, with Hudson earning
second with 1-2 placings and Hamilton's 3-3 giving him third for the day. fN

Ohio's Mike Treadway chose a somewhat unlikely mount - a Honda XL350based thumper - for his four-mota
sweep of the Sportsman 500 and 40+
Intermediate classes on the fast Honda
Hills circuit.
Treadway also went up against the
"youngsters" in the 30+ Intermediate
class and rode to third overall. While
Kerry Jackson (Han) handily won each
30+ moto, Treadway lost out on the
number-two spot overall after Joe
Collins (Hon) topped him in a close battle for second in mota two.
Nearly 180 entries turned out for the
last AHRMA National MX east of the
Mississippi this season. Even with a blistering sun and humid temperatures
reaching the mid-90s, the track was in
excellent condition and remained fairly
dust-free all day.
Mike Boggia of Hubbard, Ohio, won
Sportsman 125 Expert on the standard
weapon for that class - a Honda 125 Elsinore - but then he rode the same

The BSA-mounted Quebec contingent, as usual, placed welL Steve Tucker
