Margheim masters minis at LACR Motocross By Greg Robertson PAlMDALE, CA. AUG. 5 Blake Margheim and Gregory Freier split-8Occ Beginner mota wins with Margheim coming out on top in the all-important second mota to capture the overall win during the California Racing Club's Saturday night motocross at Los Angeles County Raceway. Freier was untouchable in the first moto, leading from the drop of the gale to the checkered flag. Andrew Turner ran second for a cou-. pie of laps before Margheim dived underneath him in a corner to take over the position. Margheim easily pulled away from Turner, but ended up a few seconds off the pace of Freier at the finish. Turner took third ahead of a good battle for fourth between Meshay Garcia and Donny Wiggins. Turner holes hot moto two with Margheim and Freier already breathing down his neck with only half a lap completed. The next six laps saw some intense racing as the three front-runners pulled clear of the field. The lead trio was about as evenly matched as it could be, sometimes three-abreast through the turns. With the white flag out, Margheirn made his move at the bottom of the over-and-under jump by holding a tighter inside line and grabbing the lead from Turner. Margheim took the welldeserved mota win. Tumer held off Freier by a couple of bike lengths to finish second. Wiggins was a distant fourth with joel Hanson rounding out the top five. • John Chapman spent the entire first Vet Beginner mota working up from his last-place star! to out-jump fast starter Carl Legaspi on the final lap to grab the win. Mark jones almost also caught Legaspi on the final lap, but ended up a few feet short for third. Chapman got a decent star! in mota two, but within a lap was passed by Eric Farmer and n .'1 q d91 1'1 jones. By the halfway point Chapman had made his way back into the lead where he would stay for the duration. Farmer held off the challenges of jones to finish second in the mota and second overall.
