ner when he lined up for the SOcc main event.
Troy johnson picked the first spot on the line by
virtue of his heat·race perfonnance. Adam Henrichs, however, started quickly and soon opened
up a seemingly comfortable margin ahead of
Gardner, johnson and Bobby LePage. As the
laps ticked away, however, Gardner's cornering"
speed was steadily improving, and much to the
delight of the crowd he reeled in Henrichs. A
bobble from the leader in turn three was all
Gardner needed to make the pass, and with two
laps to go the Kawasaki rider went on to score
the win. johnson and .LePage raced to third and
fourth place, respectively. Henrichs was the first
to congratulate Gardner while they coasted into
the pits.
Buzz Arndt's season-long dominance in the
40+ class finally came to an end at the hands of
Dave Koch. Koch pulled the all-important
holeshot and was never challenged during his
dash to the checkers. The top five racers that followed Koch to the checkers were Daryl Pangerl,
Arndt, joel Gulbranson and John Sutherlin.
Koch kept his hot streak going in the Stock
Frame class when race leader Brad Frey fell on
the last lap, effectively handing Koch the win.

PRIVATEER WARS
By Tim McBride
CAMBRIDGE, MN, JULY 26
The Cambridge Speedway racing action was hot
throughout the Open Pro-class program, bUI it
was dirt track veteran Billy Hoffmiester who
scored the D.T.R.A. Open Pro-class victory, his
first of the season.
At the start 'of the lQ-lap main event, Tony
Kohner gated first with Eric Brouhard, Kurt
Boehlke, Hoffmiester and the rest of the pack in
.rtOw. On lap three Brouhard high-sided in tum
two, stopping the race. Brouhard lined up for
the single-file restart, but soon discovered that
he did not have ~ny brakes, thus effectively ending his chances of a repeat. Kohner jumped out
front at the restart, but the race was stopped
again when Boehlke crashed in the first turn,
collecting Randy Triplett and Norb Gregory in
the process. No one was hurt, but a despongent
Boehlke was sent 10 the back of the line.
Once again Kohner grabbed the lead at the
restart and was followed closely by Hoffmiester,
who in turn held a slight margin ahead of the
rest of the field. Kohner and Hoffmiester were
engaged in some heavy grinding until Hoffmiester muscled his. way past with three lap~ to go,
and went on to score the win ahead of Kohner.
Boehlke charged through the pack to finish a
solid third.
The 250cc Pro class sa w a classic exchange
between Hoffmiester and defending class
champ Langland. Although he held the lead for
several laps, Langland was finally passed by
Hoffrniester with two laps remaining. Hoffmiester took the victory.
Mike Lattman made another appearance at
the Cambridge Speedway, playing the role of
"spoiler" as he posted victories in the Over 30
and Open Bclasses.
In the SOcc Jr. division, Chris Larson
remained undefeated, speeding to the checkers
in first place once again. Ma.tt era.ndell and
Travis Henrichs rounded out the top three fin·
ish~i~g positions, respectively.
