Ghidiu gears up at Palmyra MX
By Melissa Threadgill
PAlMYRA, NY, AUG. 6
Scott Ghidiu was in command at the Palmyra
motocross, wending ·his way to a double-mota
sweep of the 16-24 combined class with comfort- _
able margins at the end of both motos.
Darrell Stone rolled to the moto-one
holeshot, followed by Scott Ghidiu and Brad
Ghidiu. Casey Higgins was running fourth, but
proved to be on the move as he displaced Brad
Ghidiu in third, and then began to exert pressure on Scott Ghldiu.
Scott had other things on his mind, however,
as he soon passed the Leader, Stone. after the
pair had run side by side over a high-speed
drop-off.
Stone faded fast after that and was passed
first by Higgins, who moved into second, and
Brad Ghidiu, then later by Bill Silverole and
Peter Maljy.
SilveroJe moved into third and put pressure
on Higgins, then passed the second-placed rider
on the last lap to take the runner-up spot.
Scott Ghidiu met the checkered flag first, followed by Silverole, Higgins, Maljy, and Brad
Ghidiu.
.
]n moto two, Stone nailed his second
holeshot, followed by Brad and Scott Ghidiu. Silverole was mired midpack after a botched start.
Scott quickly garnered the point position and
would pull away from the pack to a comfortable
margin that would only dwindle in the very last
stages of the race.
Back in the pack, Silverole had charged his
way i.nto second place. The only obstacle
between him and the overall was point man
Scott Ghidiu, but he was seven seconds away.
Silverole worked on that gap and by the last lap
had wheedled it down to a scant one second. As
they came toward the finish, Silverole closed the
gap and almost made the pass, but just couldn't
finish the job and had to settle for second. Ed
Van Ballegooyen finished third, with Higgins
and Stone rounding out the top five.
