The battle wa between Shane Clarke and Shawn Conrad, like Katzenberger, Kawasaki ZX-6-mounted. And like Katzenberger, Clarke had tried to split, but was reeled in by Conrad in short order, the pair making their exit from the rest of the 32-rider field posthaste. It wasn't until the fourth lap that Conrad moved up to second place, and, once there, he gapped Clarke who was coming under attack by a swarm of riders just off the pace. "It definit Iy took a while," Conrad said. "I think Shane haa top speed on me and r had to catch him in the turns 'and work out how to get him into the twisty parts of the course." Then on the last lap, Curtis made his run at Clar~e and took the third-place position. "I wa hoping to stick around a Uttle closer with Russ (Katzenberger), but he was out of there," Curtiss said. So he decided to follow the riders in front of him. "I caught them, got one of them, but Shawn (Conrad) was gone. "I've been co.ming here for so long and haven't been in the winner's circle, I haven't even seen the winner's circle. I saw Russ getting away I knew I had to get in third place. There was a couple of tUnes that the guys in front of me were either getting close to each other or bumping. Everything looked like fair game play to me. I don't know what was going on behind me. Shane was definitely tired of me." He was tired of Gordon Lunde also, the Tri-R Racing rider getting by him on the final lap, also, to take fourth place, dropping Clarke just in front of Derek Struye. Then came the freight train of Paul Mason, Michael Gaherty, and Quenni King World Superbike Championship Laguna Seca Raceway 4: 1995 .
