Before the second round of motos, the sunny
skies darkened and the clouds opened up,
changing the freshly designed and wellgroomed Treaty City }rack into a mudfest. The
changing conditions made for ever-more--challenging circumstances that heightened the
crowd's anticipation fOT the second moto of the
125 A class.
As the gate dropped for moto two, it was
again Cooper roosting away with the holeshot.
Treadwell waS' in hot pursuit, but this was
Cooper' 5 race, his off-road experience real.1y
paying off in the muddy conditions. Yezek got
off the line fourth, behind Beuhl, but the Suzuki
pilot would ~ventually dispatch Beuhl and
Treadwell to take second. By the time Yezek was
up to second, Cooper was long gone, styling his
way to victory. Cooper nabbed the overall by
virtue of the tie breaker, with Treadwell a distant third. Steel stopped the F&S juggernaut in
fourth, with Reed rounding out the top five.
Stokes hot at Silver State MX
By Joan TIearney
CARSON CITY, NY, JULY 7
Honda-mounted Levi Stokes blazed to his firstever win in the 125cc Beginner class with a
strong second-moto comeback in Friday night
racing action at the Silver State Raceway.
In the first moto, Corey Mathisen grabbed
the holeshot on his Honda ahead of Ma tl Whitwam and Stokes. The holeshot artist kept his fast
pace - and his lead - throughout the race. Stokes
nailed down second with a late-race pass on
Whitwam, with Brian Erb shortly doing the
same and relegating Whitwam to fourth.
Mathisen rode to the unchallenged win wfth
Stokes second, Erb third and Whitwam fourth.
A determined Stokes grabbed the holeshot
and left the pack in moto two. Erb ran his
Kawasaki in second ahead of Mathisen, while an
unfortunate Whitwam suffered a poor start and
never gained the necessary positions to defend
his top-five finish in moto one.
.
Meanwhile, Stokes rode a great race a,nd
seemed to have made the transition from
minibikes to the bigger machine without a hitch.
Erb raced in second for five hard laps and never
let Mathisen's Honda get by. Stokes kept his
lead and took the overall win, with Mathisen
finishing second in the moto and overall. Erb
landed third overall.

RUSK, TX, JULY 2
Clay Hoenshell dominated the hot round 10 of
the Texas Cross Country Series held south of
Tyler, Texas, at the Thunder Mountain Raceway.
The RMX rider roosted to top honors with a
wire-to-wire win in the Pro class..
Temperatures in the upper 90s greeted the
afternoon start. Hoenshell was hot too, and used
his patented holeshot to take the lead at the drop
of the green flag. This would prove to be the
most important part of the race as the "dust was
extremely thick and there was absolutely no
breeze to clear the clouds of debris kicked ilp.
The K1Ms of Donnie McMillon and Todd Tarver closed in behind Hoenshell, while Dean Lane
used some quick passes to get to fourth before
hitting the woods. The riders spread out immediately because of dust. Lane managed to get by
Tarver on lap two and then McMillon on lap
three to take over the runner-up spot. Hoenshell
was long gone though, stretching his lead from
almost one minute on lap one, to two minutes
by .the time Lane moved into second. Hoenshell
never let up and finished nearly three minutes
up on Lane. McMillon and Tarver claimed tfurd
and fourth, several minutes back.
Lorenz Wilkerson powered his Suzuki DR to
the Four-Stroke Expert-class win. Wilkerson
built a commanding early lead after taking the
holeshot. Tom Ehmke whittled away at his margin for seven laps after getting off to a thirdplace start. After seven laps Ehmke had Wilkerson in sight, but could not get close enough to
make a pass. They finished in that order while
Kenny Vowell nailed down third, four minutes
off the front-runners' pace.
