Weeks. sefton rolls at Malvern MX By Jeff Goodwin MALVERN, OH,)ULY1 Dustin Sefton laid claim to the title of "Fastest Dustin" and the junior Pee Wee trophy by outduelling Dustin Charcalla on a beautifully prepped Malvern track. Charcalla motored to the first moto holeshot with Sefton trailing behind in third. Sefton effortlessly glided into the lead within half a lap and opened a 15-second advantage by mid~ moto. Charcalla picked up the pace late in the moto and closed to within eight seconds of the lead, but the moto win went to Sefton. Sefton mastered the slippery concrete start gate and holeshol moto two, quickly moving to a 10-second lead. Charcalla had rounded the first turn mired in mid pack and started a charge to the front. Sefton held a 15-second lead by the halfway mark when Charcalla finally hammered into second. Charcalla chipped five seconds from the lead, but it was too late. Sefton's double-moto wins garnered the overall win. In Senior Pee Wee action Brandon Stark rode steadily, guiding his Yamaha to vi.cto.cy while inconsistency and crashes slowed the faster riders. First-moto winner Joe Rice only managed a fourth in moto two. where Ronald Kendall II wrangled his speedy Cobra to the moto victory. joel Sutphin proved the fastest rider on the track by passing the bulk of the field and battIing for the lead, but a first-moto DNS and two secondmota crashes demoted him to mid pack. Kendall's 5-1 score captured third place behind Rice's 1-4 second-place tally and Stark's 2-3 score for the overall win. Results JR P/W: 1. Dustin Sefton (Yam); 2. Dustin CharcaJla (Yam); 3. Aden, Estes cop Glen Helen Speedway wins By Michael Maher Photo by Jim Thorn SAN BERNARDINO, CA,)ULY7 jim Estes has been looking particularly impressive at Glen Helen Speedway of late as be. added another Scratch main event victory to his total while up-and-coming jeremy Aden followed up his Scratch main win of a week ago by taking hi& first Handicap main event victory. Estes took the lead off the line in the scratch main, leading john and jeremy Aden, Walt Farnum and Pat Utt, but Utt broke down and Farnum fell down to leave the fight between Estes and the brothers Aden. Estes held on and cruised across the line ahead of john and Jeremy Aden while Farnum got back in the race to collect the fourth spot The Handicap main saw Rick Pearce take the early lead, but jeremy Aden came off the 30yard line with a vengeance and soon caught and passed Pearce for the lead and then sped away, taking the victory over Pearce, Farnum, John Aden, Greg Ayers and Rodney Sherman, who went out after clobbering the wall. The Scratch B main was a good one through the first turn as the pack went through in 'a tight bunch, but then Pearce took control and was gone. Randy Difrancesco held on for second place while Tom Wetzel bumped lbe wall and dropped to third and Robbie Sauer broke down. Richard Proger was the winner in the Support class main event, but Cory Lossier provided much of the excitement. While running second, he slapped the wall, dropped to third behind Doug Ubie and then fought his way back past Ubie to take back second place with Ubie third, john Defries fourth, Ben Mears fifth and Rick Seip dropping out with mechanical woes. The Sidecar main saw National Champions Ken Mcintyre and Les Ketcham take the early lead followed by Kevin and Rick Rogers, Peter Lewis and jamie Macy, and Glen McClellan and Dave Kambarian. Lewis.and Macy joined the Rogerses in a spirited battle for second place. When the Rogerses' rig spun out, the gate was opened for Lewis and Macy who closed the gap to Mclntyre and Ketcham but were unable to catch them. Mcintyre and Ketcham took the win over Lewis and Macy, McClellan and Kambarian, and Rogers and Rogers. In the junior ranks Jimmy Fishback defeated Ryan Fisher in the First Division main while Patrick Donovan beat Robert Levandoski to take the Second Division honors. Results SCRATCH: I. Jim Estes; 2. Several events on the night kept the small crowd on its feet, but none was more of a surprise than the Pro-Twin main. At the flash of th~ green. SlOp Wertz barreled his Triumph twin into the first tum and never looked back, building a considerable lead over an ever-changing cast of pursuers led by first Steve Boggs, then Dave Riley, and by lap four the Triu.mph of Fiseel, who seemed to come out of nowhere to lead the pack of also-rans.. Coasting in second for a couple of laps, Flseel cranked up the wick and overtook the slowing Wertz on lap seven. FisceI, on cooler, lessstressed tires, began to pu.ll ~way to the end. Wertz, though fading somewhat, still had enough to hold off the challenges of John Fike, Nell Keen and Dave Riley, who had slipped the groove in tum four on the, ninth lap and slipped back from third all the way to fifth when lbe alert Fike and Keen blew on by in a tight draft. Bill Wertz, the only other rider on the same lap with the leaders, took the sixth spot for his effort. Rasults OPEN PRQ-TW: 1. Rick F~I (Tri); 2. Merlyn Wertz (T'ri); 3. john Fike CBSA); 4.
