Stanley went on to win the race. (Left) James Elckel (700) was unstoppable at the New Moon Raceway MX. taking the 125cc Pro-class victory. Stanley sizzles at Astoria ST By Clay Light ASTORIA, OR. jUl.Y1 the 250cc B race with teenage dirt track sensation Keegan Iverson. The duo traded the front position repeatedly, but Zemanovic's experience prevailed in the end to earn him the victory. Curtis Sullivan finished third. Zemanovic also dominated the Open B main event right from the start, scoring a flag-to-flag victory. After an early shuffling of positions, Berger settled into the lead of the 600cc pack and remained there for the duration of the race. He came across the finish just ahead of Kurt Boehlke and Bill Hoffmiester. Mike Hoh piloted his Rotax to a convincing win in the SOOcc Pro-Am final. Eric Brouhard finished a strong second ahead of Kenten Longcor, who went on to win the 750cc Pro Twin Dash for Cash. Results: 750 PRO 1W DR:: 1, Kenten Longcor; 2. Billy Hoffnlle5ter; J. At Oregon's only AMA venue in dirt track racing, Clatsop Speedway, Washington's Dan Stanley topped the pack in the Expert main even t despite challenges from Jeff Annen to pick up a win during round four of the Northwest Championship Series. Washington riders dominated Expert qualifying, as Shane Butchart won heat one over Eric Rickman. The other heat was a preview of the main event as Stanley got around Annen for the win. Oregon's Rex Fisher gave the home·state fans something to cheer about with a third-place finish. Annen's Wood Rotax bolted to the head of the pack in the Expert main event, but Stanley sucked up Annen's lead on lap two, made a pass, and rode the rest of the race unchallenged. Fisher was fastest through traffic, and he passed Rickman and Butchart to settle in behind the leaders. A bad crash late in the race by Jeff Hiatt brought things to a stop, but the restart was again the Dan Stanley show. Annen, Fisher, J.P. Simonsen, Butchart, Chris Fitzhugh and Scott McPherson followed. A large amount of 250cc contestants were on hand, but in the end, the main-event finish order , was much the same as it's been all season long. Yamaha-mounted Joe Lenz continued to dominate the class, posting a win in one of two heat races and doing a similar runaway act in the A main where he beat Todd Hagm.1n and George Prindville: Results EX: 1. Kilgore rails 1·95 MX By Mary Lou Brewton SPRINGFIELD, OH, JUNE 24 Two of Ohio's top motocross riders dominated Pr0'-class action during round two of the New Moon Motocross Series at New Moon Raceway, with James Eckel taking the l2Sec Pro win via a perfect score. When the 12Se Pro class hit the first tum for moto one, Eickel outran Joe Oehlof for the lead. Rand, Chuck Reed and Blaine Armbruster were also challenging for the lead. Eickel held the top spot for two laps when he crashed. Rand took advantage of Eicke1's miscue to take over the lead while Eickel recovered and really put on a charge, passing Oehlof and Chuck Reed by the halfway point. Though Eickel would continue to attack, Rand held on for the win and Chuck Reed grabbed third ahead of Oehlof and Armbruster. Eickers mechanic, Lamont Barber, was busy between motos getting a carburetion problem straightened out and his hard work paid off as Eickel grabbed another holes hot in mota two. Rand latched onto Eickel's rear wheel and the leaders opened up a three-second lead by the end of the first la p. Armbruster and OehIof ran third and fourth, and Chuck Reed rode at the back of the field after a horrible start. Out front, Eic.kel held the lead and rode an excellent race as he took the second-mota win and the overalL "1 knew I could win if I got a good start and dido't make any mistakes." Rand claimed second ahead of Oehlof who edged out Reed for third overall, and Reed worked his way, into fourth despite not being able to get it together on the racetrack. Armbruster picked up the fifth spot for fifth overall. Greg Rand was the crowd favorite in the 250cc Pro class, and he did not disappoint as he went on to bag the overall win. Results MlCRO jR: 1. Sisemore sizzles at Vallejo Speedway By M. Sober VALLEJO, CA, jUl.Y1 Jim Sisemore demonstrated why he has been one of the top American-based speedway riders. in the United States for the past 10 years by taking wins in both the Scratch and Handicap mains at the Solano County Fairgrounds Sports Arena Speedway oval. The Handicap main event was a classic case of the freight train overtaking the unsuspecting veterans. Jimmie Sisemore, Bart Bast and Bobby Hicks came off their SO-yard-Iine starting positions in quick pursuit of Chad Felicia, Mark Becker, and Rick Schambers. Becker's bike quit in the first tum, allowing Felicio to move' up to second place behind Schambers. Schambers led Bast and Hicks as the veteran group disposed of Felicio in lap three, but lost the lead to Sisemore at the white flag. Sisemore won the race, holding Bast in second place by half a bike length. The Scratch main proved a less-classic affair than the Han.dicap. The starting tapes refused to cooperate, causing four attempts to get the last cace in the books. Sisemore was first off the line from hi inside pole position, and dominated the race from start to finish. Bast came in second position and Bobby Hedden took third. The 4th rocks at Red Bud MX By Larry Witmer BUCHANAN, MI, jUl.Y4 Approximately 600 riders converged on the Red Bud Track "N" Trail MX track near Buchanan for the Malcolm Smith Night Series. The racing was as hot as the holiday's fireworks shows, and in the small-bore dass, Rick Davis had a perfect night, winning both motos. In the first moto, Davis grabbed the holeshot on his little KTM and would never be seriously chalienged, though James Henfling kept him honest throughou t the moto. Henf1ing finished second, while Nick Mason made up for a fiMplace fmishing third. Rounding out the top five were Kyle Howe a,nd David Kwast. Davis again gated first in the second moto and rode a mistake-free race to score his second win of the day. Howe, however, gave Davis reason to be nervous as he closed in on the leader late in the race, but time ran out before Howe could give Davis a serious challenge for the lead. Once again, Howe laid claim to second, followed by Henfling. In the 30+ Expert division, Larry Witmer, on his Suzuki, grabbed the holeshot ahead of the 21>rider field. Just behind Witmer was Suzuki rider Bobby Wagner and Yamaha-mounted Fred Nelle. Witmer's lead only lasted a lap when Wagner outrode Witmer through a whoop section and took over the point position. Not long after that, Nette made his move and passed Witmer for second. Nette soon began chaUenging Wagner for the lead, while Witmer chased in third. The trio wove their way through lapped traffic and when it was ali overJ Wagner managed to hold on for the win ahead of Nette and Witmer. Finishing fourth was Rick Walsworth. Witmer grabhed the holes hot again in the second mota but, once again, Wagner saw his chance and took over the lead shortly thereafter, while Nette settled into third. Wagner, however, bobbled in the sand switchbacks letting Witmer back into the lead, and then Nette crashed in the whoops but stiU managed to hang on to third, though he would no longer be a threai to the two front-runners. A few laps later, Wagner again passed Witmer for the lead but, as he had done early, crashed in the sand switchbacks, handing Witmer the lead for the second time. Wagner quickly remounted in second, right behind Witmer with only two laps left in the race. Wagn.er pressured the leader in every tum but just could not perform another pass on Witmer, who scored the win and the overall victory. Tn the 250cc B final, Chris Torrance, from Burleson, Texas, made his trip worthwhile after winning his qualifier and coming back to holes hot the final moto and take the win. Results 50 (4-t)): I.
