The Scratch main event saw Jim Sisemore on the pole, Bast on the outside and the Heddens Bobby and his brother Tommy - sandwiched in between. Sisemore got the holeshot, but when the other riders tried to follow, it resulted in a three-bike crash and a restart. On the restart Tommy Hedden got the jump off the line but failE\d to get a good drive coming out of the corner and was passed by 'Bast and Sisemore. Bobby Hedden got by Sisemore for third as Bast con tinued to lead and came across the line first. Tommy Hedden was a bike length behind, just ahead of his brother. Results HDCP: I. Pat Unn (Gdn); 2. By Gan Moore South Central Motocross opens summer season By Michael Myers SALEM, IL, JUNE 18 Two days prior to the onset .of the summer season, the roar of motocross filled the air as over 500 spectators were treated to awe-inspiring jumps and crafty riding at South Central MX. Dan Ryder Led from start to finish in three of his four motos, and walked away with the overall first in both the 250cc A and 25+ classes. Jason Askew shot out of the gates quickly in the second moto of the 250cc C class after clawing his way past Shane Hampton and Clint Smothers for the win in moto one. Hampton and Smothers mounted a furious charge at the end of the second moto, falling short as Askew held off both riders to capture the overall win. Nick Walsh grabbed the early lead in both motos of the 125cc Schoolboy class and cruised to the overall first. Jason Reich earned second place and Jason Harris nabbed third. Gary Buecker grabbed the overall win in both the 30+ A and the 35+ classes, holding off Mike Wells, who placed second. Wells also finished second in the 30+ B class, behind winner Michael Fineshriber. In moto one of the 125cc B ciass, Blake Bohenstiezl and Willis went head to head from start to finish, surging over the last 50 feet of track within inches of each other, both struggling to stay on the track. The two were followed closely by NathanMollett. In moto two, Bohenstiezl grabbed the holeshot and didn't slow down until he claimed . first overall in the class. Linn, Bast share gold at Auburn Speedway ByGen Moore AUBURN, CA, JUNE 30 Bart Bast proved hirnseU the fastest man of the night by winning the Saatch main, and Pat Linn scored his first win of the season in the Handicap main at Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn. Larry Hesseman and Rick Schambers slid into the first comer together at the start of the Handicap main, but Schambers got the better drive coming out and took the lead. Linn had sole possession of third with Bast, John Houston and Bobby Hedden dicing for fourth. Toward the end of the race, Linn began putting pressure on Schambers, and as they AUBURN, CA, jUlY 7 Louis Kossuth scored his second win of the season by taking the checkered flag in the Handica p main event while Jim Sisemore held off Bart Bast to win the Scratch main event at the Gold Country Fairgrounds. Oad Felicio and Allen Krause led the start of the Handicap main event. Tommy Hedden rode the outside line, gaining enough drive to pass the pack on the straightaways but losing ground by going wide in the corners. Krause held second position but also went wide, allowing the pack to catch up and challenge him for second place. At the end of the front straight, Hedden lost control, taking Krause down with him and causing a red. flag. On the restart, Kossuth went to the outside line and used it to move into the lead. It looked as if Felicio would hold 'onto second until he went wide in the final comer and allowed the pack to get by. Kossuth took the checkered flag while Bobby Hedden finished second and Bast placed third. Sisemore started on the pole for the Saatch main while Bast and brother Harlan Bast Jr. started in gates two and three.. respectively, leaving the outside gate for Kossuth. As they came off the line, Kossuth did a wheelie that put him in last pl~ce going into the comer. Sisemore took the holeshot with Bart Bast right behind. The leaders pulled away, leaving Harlan Bast Jr. and Kossuth in a battle for third. Sisemore crossed the line first, followed by Bart Bast in second place and Kossuth in third. Resulta HDCP: 1. Owen awesome at Mosier Valley Motocross By Chris Boice ARLINGTON, IX, JUNE 30 Coby Owen roosted his way to the overall win in the 125cc Novice'class at the Mosier Valley MX Park, besting a la-rider field with 2-1 moto finishes. Ricky Chappell blasted his way to the holeshot in the first 125cc Novice moto. Close behind' Chappell were Roy Scheel and Les Cain. Chappell and Scheel began to pull away from the rest of the field by the second lap. Scheel closed to within a wheel of Chappell, waiting for him to make a mistake. Meanwhile, Owen was passing riders by the handful, recovering from his last-place start. With the white flag indicating one lap to go, . Owen closed to within striking distance of Chappell and Scheel. When Scheel saw the front fender of Owen coming up behind him, he decided it was time to make his move on Chappell. Scheel got on the brakes a split second later than Chappell and squared off the next comer to take the lead. Chappell tucked in behind SCheel to try to protect his second-place position. Owen had a different plan, however. He set Chappell up for a pass in the stadium whoops and roosted his way into second place with just two corners to go before the finish line. When the checkered flag came out, it was Scheel with the win. followed by Owen and Chappell. The start of the second moto was a carbon copy of the first with Chappell grabbing the holeshot. This time Owen got out of the starting gate with the rest of the field and made his move on Chappell early to capture the lead. Owen established his dominance ;uld by the third lap was styling for the crowd with no one challenging him for the lead. At the finish it was Owen by several seconds, followed by Chappell who was securely in second. Third place in the moto went to Johnny Davidson. When the scores were tallied, Owen's 2-1 finishes gave him the overall win. Chappell's 3-2 scores earned second and Scheel's 1-5 moto firtishes netted third overall. Results 50 STK: 1. C.T.
