The 25+ Masters class was a true crash-fest.
5a>1l Hicks was one of the few riders to avoid
various multiple-rider diggers, and he took the
checkers first in both motns foT the overall win.
The variance in moto finishes left second
through fourth place tied on seven points each,
with Tom Dretzka, Tony Butler and Jeff Blaha
rounding out the top four places based on their
second-moto finishes. Dretzka also had consistent 2-2 finishes for first oveiall in the Veteran A
Oass.

Vintage MX win
By Harvey Mushman
RUSK, TX. MAY 21
Lawrence "lronmanu Lucia and the AHRMA
boys showed how painful four inches of real
travel can be when they showed up to do battle
at the Thunder Mountain MX facility .with lucia
wiIming the 40+ Intermediate class.
FiTSt out of the gate was the 30+ Combined
and 40+ Combined moto. lucia took the start
with Mike lagaza and Rick Humphreys on his
tail. Soon, Humphreys was past both and
raced ahead, leaving the two CZ riders to battle, which they did - right down to the wiTe
with Lucia taking the win. "lronman" Lucia
finished the day with two wins, thTee secondplace and one third-place finish in his six
motos. "P-Nut" BaiTd went 3-2 in the USee
Intermediate class and 1-2 to win the 30+ InteTmediate class.
The second 30+/40+ Combined moto went
off just like the first. Lucia was out front this
time with Sean Knaack and Humphreys chasing
him. lucia dropped off with mechanicals while
Humphreys did the big infield double to pas
Knaack and pull out a comfortable lead before
locking up the win in the 40+ Intermediate division, all the while keeping an eye on the eveTimproving Ossa rider.
Double moto winners on the included Terry
GerbeT, Mike lagaza, Keith McGee, J.R. Ott,
David Jarvis and Rick Humphreys.
McGee showed up and unloaded a 1968
400cc 4-speed, right-side shift Husqvama and
spanked bikes six yeaTS newer than his in the
30+ Novice and 500cc Novice classes.

Peoria 5T to Hill

PEORIA, lL, JUNE 10
The un-retired Aaron Hill made a big comeback
at the Peoria Speedway short track.
"Man I needed that," Hill said. "I hadn't
even planned on riding tonight, but the chance
came up to ride the Gardner Racing/Walters
Bros. Rotax and I knew I needed some seat time
so I said why not."
Twenty-five expert riders from all over the
country signed up for the Tote Gray Racing-promoted $5000 Pro-Am event on the fast highbanked quarter mile. The competition was so
fierce that Dave Camlin was the only home-state
Tider in the 12-rider main. Hill sat on the pole for
the mam with J.P. Simonsen, Dan Stanley and
Eli Price to his left. Jim Sumner joined Camlin on
the front row.
Simonsen holeshot the field and led Hill and
Andy Tresser into turn one. Tresser used a great
start to move from the second row to third
place. Simonsen held steadfast to the groove
with Hill and TresseT hot :; 2. Casey Burton (Hon); 3.

on the brakes in turn one with Wohlfeil taking a
wide line through the corner.
In each successive lap, Wohlfeil would pull
out of the draft and leacl Fisher down the
straight only to be passed on the brakes in tum
one. The final result was still in question when
Fisher missed a shift coming on to the straightaway for the drive to the flag and Wohlfeil took
second place by less than a wheel.
