Jurado jams to LACR
Night MXWin
By Greg Robertson
PALMDALE, CA,jUNE 10
with Scholling back on the gas after his earlier
shunt and ooming up through the pack to challenge Kawasaki pilot Chad Birins.
Scholting made a pass on Birins but was
passed right back in the next oomer. The two riders diced side by side until the last lap. When it
oounted most, Scholling held the throttle wideopen and sailed by Bitins through the whoop section to finish third. Carlton hung on for the moto
win. followed by Suzuki-mounted Scheel
In the second moto, Scholling had the fastest
hand and left the gate with Scheel and Carlton
in tow.
The leaders broke away from the pack and
. diced, then Scheel dialed in the fast line through
the stadium whoops and captured the lead from
Scholting.
On the same lap, Scholting was passed
again, Carlton being the man on the move th.is
time with the CR rider staying on the gas a splitsecond longer than Scholting going inlO a oorner
and assuming second place.
By this time Scheel pulled out a five-bikelength lead, but it wasn't to last. Carlton put his
head down, lefr Scholting behind in third and
pulled along side Scheel, passing him for the
lead over an uphill set of double jumps. U nforlunately Scheel crashed hard after he got on the
binders in midair, and retired from the molO.
Carlton cruised to an easy win with Scholling and Birins in second and third, respectively.
Carlton's two wins gave him the overall victory
while Scholling's 3-2 moto finishes netted him
second and Birins' 4-3 finishes earned him third
overall.

Martin masters Lodi TT

LOOt CA,jUNE 10
Billy Marlin put on a late-race charge 10 top the
Open Money dass at the Ladi Cyde Bowl IT,
wliich drew 150 riders.
The Open Money Race was the race of the
day as 14 riders took 10 the line. Greg Miller led
much of the race and looked as though he was
going to take a wire-to-wjre win. But Martin was
working his way through the pack with a
vengeance. The last five laps were real bar
bangers. Down the front straight, Marlin tried to
pass Miller inside and outsidei he gave the tree
turn his best effort, and pushed hard over the
first jump. None of those efforts paid off. Going
into the tight lefr-hander, Marlin ducked to the
inside of Miller and grabbed a handful That
didn't work either. But on the last jump Marlin
scooted up on the gas tank, kept the rubber on
the ground, and went for it. It worked as he beat
Miller by about one inch. The crowd was on its
feet, and nobody really knew who won until the
scorers gave it to Martin.
The Pro~Am Novice contest was a battle
between Don Hart, Johnny Murphree, and Lee
German. These three riders go so fast that it's
sometimes difficult to keep up with what is
going on. All three of these riders can win any.
given night, but on this night it was Hart who
took the win over Murphree and German. The
Black Plate race went to Rob Damron, Danny
Hart and Greg Miller. The 250cc Pro-Am main
event saw Justin Ownsby taking home the win
followed by Gary Miller and Ron Reimer.
