When the gate fell to start the first wave - the
125s - Richard Wickham pu t his Su zuki at the
front of the pack just edgi ng Murdoch and Casey
Newhouse . Jeff Maxwell ga ted midpack but was
on the gas and doubled his way into the top five
as he jumped over Johnny Beyer's Suzuki .
Up front , Murdock was closing on Wickham.
with Nathan Craig coming ou t of the shadows
to claim the number-three position . The running
order remained intact for the next few laps until
Murdoch emerged from the back section of the
tra ck having stormed into the lead whil e Wickham reappeared in third .
Murdo ch qu ickl y o p ened up t h e g ap

Craig by clearing th e grandsta nd triple jump,
and maintained th at cushi on to th e chec ke red .
Cra ig wa s su rp rised by a late-m ot e cha rge by
Wickham as the Suz u ki rider was determined to
make up for lost positi ons.
Wickham al mos t made th e pass wh en lappe rs became a n issue . The Suz uki rider moved
to the ou ts ide to ge t a run at the long d ouble
jum p, only to hav e a lappc-d rider cut across his
ramp pa th and foil his effort . After maki ng an
all-o ut a ttem p t to miss the backm arker , Wickham still dipped the rider and went down .
This gave Cra ig clear sailing to the chec kered
for seco nd place with Wickham remo unting and
fin is hi ng in th ird a hea d of Jeff Ma xw ell and
Justin Gutierrez, who ro unded out the top five
finish ers.
Moto two res u med whe re th e first on e left

clean holesh ot. Craig went from second to fourth
after going wid e in the horsesh oe and allowing
both Wickham im d Gu tierrez to slip by.
Wi ckham mana g ed to ke ep Murd o ch in
sight but this was as close as he was able to get
as Mu rdoch w e nt wire-to-wire for th e win.
Craig finished third a fter dicin g with Gutierrez
fo~ most of th e moto, while Maxwell filled ou t
the top five overall positions.

Greenville Half Mile
By Bert Shepard
GREENEVILLE, OH, JUNE 17
"This is my kind of track - I love thi s place,"
exclaimed Dan Butlerafter taming the half-mile
oval at th e Darke County Fai rgrounds for th e
750cc win, his first of the 1995 racing season.
The victory bro ught Butler int o a third-place
tie with his TCR Racing teammate Kevin Atherton in the Eastern Region po ints standings. Scott
Stu m p p ut in a flawless rid e to d ominate the
600cc Expert d iv is io n. Th e Pro- Am di vi si on
events went to r aul Lynch and Tomm y Hayden
in the 250 and 600cc classes, respecti vely.
In the 750cc main even t, David Ra ybu rn
se lect ed the outside pole. Wi th one lap in the
record book, Butler had the point with Steve
Beattie, Donnie Estep and Rayburn in his wak e.
Est ep a nd Rayburn argued over th ird while
Beattie tried to close on Butler.
"I bu sted my ass in practice and was kinda
so re ," sai d Beattie . "Secon d place wa s goo d
enoug h."
Kevin Atherton, Bob Knapp and Jeff Eklund
traded fifth-pla ce back and forth. With the front
four posi tions see mi ng secu re at the halfway
point, Butle r br ought h is Benson Ford /C u mmings H-D/Silkolene /MSR/Cafe Max/M & Dbacke d XR d own to th e groove for th e win .
Athe rto n, Knapp and Eklun d had not yet come
to any ag reement on fifth, but every'o ne held
their positions to the checkers.
The 600cc Expe rt race belonged to Stum p.
"W e d id n ot cha nge a t h ing all n ight,"
Stump said . "The Honda just wouldn't spin the
tire like the Rotaxes ."
What apf'&1red to be easy for Stump was more
" e
difficult for the remainder of the field. Brett Be}' r,
Georgie Price, Roger Durkee and Gary Stogsdill
battled each other and the tricky pea gravel for the
pla ce a nd sh ow spots . The qua rtet circulated ,
using the en tire half mile. With the white flag out ,
Durkee finally moved to the bottom and passed
both Stogsdill and Price to end up second .

By Darry l Smith
WHITNEY,TX, MAY21
Tracy An d e rs promoted rou.nd seven of th e
TCCR A at the Lake Whitney cycle ra nch , and
like his even t last year, laid out his class . The AA
Expert Anders ma rked u p a 9.5-mile cou rse,
working overtime to give the rider s some virgin
trails, and the n went out a nd showed them the
fastest way aro und it.
As the AA ~xperts left the line, Ande rs wa s
mired mid pack. David Cu lpepper took the poi nt
on his WR25O, followed by Mike Abbott, David
Gamer, Erik Nieben and Darryl Smith. Garner
fell on the worst rocky downhill at Whi tney giving up several pl aces. Cu lpep pe r managed to
hol d Abbott off for a half-lap, w hile An ders
moved up a nd passed Smith an d then Nie lsen
just before the ch ec kp oi n t. Abbott open ed a
sma ll lead over Anders an d Nielsen while Smith
took two laps to get past Culpepper.
Bad luck se t in halfwa y through th e race.
Abbo tt thou ght his rea r hub was coming a part,
but fou nd ou t it wa s a loose axle nu t, caus ing his
snail adjusters to back out. And ers too k adva n

chased by Nielsen. A lap later Culpepper bro ke
his chain while in fourth, ending his day .
Garner worked up from his first -lap crash
and pa ssed Smith for third on th e motocross
track aft er ge tting the white flag . Meanwhil
Abbo tt re-entered the race and put on a charge,
elbowing his way past Smith on a rocky sweepe
and shortly thereafter jammed past Gamer.
The fini shin g positions were se t with
And er s, Nielsen and Abbott, but Ga rn er lo st
concentration and ran over a hill a few hu ndred
yards from the checkers, giving fourth to Smith.
