nu mber-one Mike Wood . Th e cha m p and his

only 6.521 seconds for the win . A pair of brothers , Cha d a nd Joel Feld e, finis hed seco nd a nd
thir d at 6.910 and 7.014. In the 80 Ope n, a class
for the day's 10 fastest rid ers , Wood slam med
the competi tion again , going over the top in jus t

In 250cc class action, Rick Parm eter held the
lead in the first half at 7.511, followed by an eyeblink a t 7.515 by Mel Pion tek. Pa rme ter an d
Pion tek got a boo t in the p an ts in the seco nd
round when Rand y Matala s clocked a fast 7.296
for the win . Jeff Piontek finished second at 7.344
and JOelFaide third. Parme ter a nd Piontek were
knocked to fifth and sixth, respecti vely.

at Starwest Motocross

It was nothing less than a slam dunk for Team
Green speedster Shaun Perol io at the second of
three NMA Ponca G ty Qualifiers at the Starwes t
supercross track, with Perolio stormin g to an awesome six-moto sweep of the 125 Modified Pro , 250
Stock Pro and 250ccModified Pro classes.
Perolio looked like he was riding a practice
session as he effortlessly left the pa ck in ea ch
and every mo to he raced and will no do ubt be a
fact or as on e of th e to p talents a t this ye a r' s
Gra nd Nationa l Cha m p ionsh ips in Okla ho ma
less than eight weeks away.
Oscar Valde z co nti nu ed to im p ress in th e
125cc Novice class by tu rning lap times within
tw o seconds of the fastest intermediates on the
track. Valdez breezed to a doub le moto sweep of
the 125cc Stock Novice class over Jason Coleman,
Greg Halv erso n, Jeremy Young and Travis Smith.
A recor d 40 Pee Wee racers were in att end ance, all trying to finis h ins ide the top 12 and
receive a transfer to the GNCs .

Paul Wright used cons istent rides in both motos
to take the overall win in the 250cc Novice d ivi. sion at the first round of the Yamaha Motocross
Dealer Series at Glen Helen Raceway. Over 300
riders were on hand to battle for their favorite
Sou thern California Yamaha d ealer.
The gate dropped for the first moto and after
so me jostling it was Vince Pu ff wi th the lead,
fo llo wed by Jon Le v e y , Ti m Bar ke r , Mat t
Polosk y a nd Stan Rasmusse n. Wri gh t go t an
eigh th-place start bu t befo re the com pletion of
lap one he had moved into sixth.
On th e second la p, Polosk y got by Ba rker
an d took ove r th ird pl ace, w hil e Rasm u ssen
bobbled commg into the infield section allowing
Wright to take over fifth place.
At the front of the pack Levey was putti ng a
lot of pressure on Puff but the leader managed
to hold Levey off, while behind them Wr ight
used the outside line going up the big hill and
ou td riving Barker up the slope.

Polosky, but Polosky shu t the doo r on him and
they bu mped. Eve ntua lly, Wr ight managed a
pass on Polosky to take over third place.
A tirin g Le vey wa s th e ne xt casu alty on
Wright's assaul t to the front as Wright was the
only front-runner to do the d oub le jump.
Ju st as th e wh ite fla g was to be dropped
Wrig ht stalled his motor but fired up his bike
with ou t losing a position. At the finish line Puff
was firs t, followed by Wright, Levey , Polosky
and Barker.
Lev ey pulled the hol eshot in th e sec ond
moto with Polosky, Josh Wray, Wright and Greg
Coy in tow, but it wasn't long befo re Wright
went by Wray for third place.
Polosky was on the move and took the lead
spo t from Levey, then Barker moved by Coy and
Wra y befor e the end of la p three, ultimately
secu ring a fourth- place finish.
As the race wound down, Anaheim Yama haspons ored Wri ght took ove r the seco nd spot
fro m Lev ey coming ou t th e canyon section.
Polosky held on for the win with the overall

Levey, Barker, Bullfro g New com er and Zapata.

from start to finish wit h Shane Shimaburku ro in
the number-two spo t as he defended his hometrack advantage. P.J. Ha tton followed in third,
while Seott Perkins and Jeremiah Moore rounded out the top five.
Moto two saw Hatt on out front off the start,
but Leath ran at the head of the class by the end
of lap o ne. Mo ore moved up a p os ition and
chased Leath in seco nd , while Ha tton finished
third. Per kins an d Shi mabu rkuro roun ded out
the top five. Leath's I-I awarded him first overall while Hatton 's consistent 3-3 ga ve him second and Moore's 5-2 tally collected third in the
trophy line for him . Shima burkuro and Perkins
finis hed fou rth a nd fifth overall, respecti vely.
Leat h continued his win streak into the 125ce
Stock In termediate, but th en battled head to
head with Kevin Gravett in the 125ce Mod Intermed ia te a nd fini shed second overall. Grav ett
also took top honors in the 250cc Mod intermed iate, while Jay Grim m finished first in the 250cc
Stock Interm ediate.
